1. For real: Call 911.
Tell them you hear screaming and you fear someone may be injured.

5. I'm worried that it would be considered an abuse of the 911 system
but I'm also worried that if she WAS injured and DID start screaming due to injury, I would ignore it.

23. That is the price she'll have to pay
I've known folks who have used the non-emergency line to contact police to report that they hear a child screaming. Perhaps a chat with the local constabulary could teach her the error of her ways.

3. She's 10, and I've talked to her multiple times
She STILL SCREAMS.

Seriously, about once every 10 minutes there is some sort of a scream, yell, holler, or other loud noise from over there. :banghead:

24. is it possible she has some problems or limitations that cause her to scream?
some of the folks I work with had to get Doc's letters to convince police that their child wasn't really in danger, just expressing him or herself....

Ir is it just garden- variety loud kid screaming/ playing/parents who set no limits, type thing?

6. If she was 8, giving her an AK as a present might be more effective
But you think 10's a little old?

7. Can you have a calm discussion with her parents?
You may be dealing with cultural issues (Some families are yell a lot) or behavorial issues. She may have a problem similar to the Asperger's/autism spectrum.

9. That's part of the problem
Her parents are split up. I think she lives with her dad. Her uncle owns the house, and she and her brother hang out outside after school until her uncle comes to get her.

She might have some sort of mild developmental problem, but if she's put together enough to go to school, I would hope she would be put together enough to not scream all the time.

I would feel more inclined towards sympathy if she wasn't SO annoying.

8. Not fully understanding the situation
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 06:46 PM by Mike 03
We used to live next to a guy who routinely beat his g/f and we called the police every time it happened.

If someone is just screaming for the hell of it, that is different, but if someone is physically harming another person, it would seem to be the right thing to call the police immediately.

If this is just some eight year old girl who has emotional outbursts, that would be another matter. One would probably want to be more cautious in how one procedes.

10. She's not being abused
She's screaming because she's incapable of interacting with her brother in a civilized manner.

11. Really not much you can do about that
That issue is completely up to her parents/the people who are raising her. You could try talking to her dad and uncle and gently tell them how disruptive her outbursts are.

and one occasionally shrieking mother trying to bring them under control, unsuccessfully.

13. 1. Get a bucket.
2. Fill bucket with water.

3. Take bucket to 10-year-old.

4. Hold 10-year-old's head under water in bucket until she stops screaming.

Now. See how easy that is? :7
