Can 2% milk get old enough to go "bad"?
I just found an old carton way in back of the fridge that has an expiration date of 8/12/79.

Do those dates really mean anything, or do the milk companies just put those on there to protect themselves?

I looked inside the carton, and it is all completely hardened in there, and it is kind of a "violet" color. Also, there appears to be some kind of plant growing in there.

I hate to buy another carton...I'm thinking that this one can just be re-hydrated with some water?

1. '79 was a good year for milk.
It should be fine.

3. Yeah, just add some water, and set it out in the garage next to the dryer
for a few days. It'll be fine. (Actually, milk is like wine - it improves with age. But the greedy dairy companies are too selfish to properly age their product... :grr:)

4. It's kinda like wine. If it was a well made milk, it's just gotten better with age.

6. Milk doesn't go "bad"
It was probably abused and is just misunderstood.
