... it reminds me of what I did when I had black cats.
Usually my cats have always been very friendly. Our Ninja is shy, so every Halloween we've had him he's hidden in the back room while the kiddos came by.
But what I did when I had friendly cats was get a harness for them! My Cerri and Mara were very friendly and loved answering the door with me, so I put a black harness on them, attached the leash, and kept them in my arms when I answered to hand out candy. The kiddos always wanted to pet them, and fortunately both of them obliged. (Mara was often referred to as a "kitty slut" by my friends -- anytime someone came over she was in their lap demanding the homage due to felines.)
With Cerri, she was usually an indoor-outdoor kitty. But for pretty much the entire month of October I kept her inside. By Halloween she was very ready to attempt to run out the door, so the harness was helpful to prevent a nighttime escape.
Anyone else have any innovative pet protection strategies they employ during Halloween?
