15. You're in college -- your life is all about impermanence right now -- it's about your future

It really, really is. My parents moved right before my first year in college, so I didn't have MY room to go to on breaks, so I understand that part of it, without all the other layers. Your life right now is about growing and growing up, and thinking about what YOUR own permanence will be in a few years. Seriously, I mean that. Even though it's been 21 years ago for me, and I'm currently zonked on cold meds, I mean what I say. I've known and worked with so many college students the last decade -- this part of it? Almost all of us --- all of them -- went through. It is a terrific time of your life, so try your hardest to embrace it.


The dorms wind up being alot of fun -- I swear. I hated Girl Scout Camp, but liked living on campus.

I hated it the first month, then I loved it for the rest of the time I was in college. You'll honestly wonder why you ever really wanted to live at home... I mean it, kiddo.

17. My son is living in the dorms on campus at UNC Chapel Hill.

Our house burned down the second day of his senior year in high school (August 07). We lived
in a friend's house for two weeks and then moved to a rental house. Ten days ago we moved
into a smaller house that we bought on the same street where our house was that burned down.

My son has a vision impairment and will never drive. He lost his vision in the third grade.
He lost his home last year. He is making his way in a new environment and doing well.

You can do it, WannaBe. You can adapt. You can grow. You can spread your wings and fly.
All kinds of people will help you. You just need to ask.
