Missed a call this afternoon
from a large hospital in Columbus for a job I applied for several weeks ago. They want to know if I can come in for an interview. I called them back and left a message.

If it worked out, it would mean I could go home. But, by the time I make another trip, there won't be enough money to go back. I need to give up hoping for what I want and just take what is here. Makes me a little sick and more than a little depressed.

I've always done what was expected of me and until recently, didn't complain. But time's running out...

1. If you had your choice of jobs, which one would you take and why?

2. The hospital
Lelapin had two surgeries there and she was treated as if she was the only patient there. I guess since I don't care much for my profession, I'd at least like to be affiliated with an organization I believe in.

And going back to Columbus means I'd have friends closer and everything would be familiar. My Garmin's toast and I'm tired of getting lost.

3. Well then we need to sort out your options.

Can you do your initial interview via phone or a vid conference so you don't have to travel there? I mean unless this is the FINAL interview I think they should understand the situation.

OR

If you need to be there, can you take a bus to save on traveling expenses? I once traveled from MKE to Cleveland on a Greyhound, I was the last person on the bus which was completely full except for the only empty seat which was next to the scary looking guy. Who turned out to be infinitely smart and way cool. We traveled in a giant snowstorm and the bus broke down and we ended up being six hours late. It was so much fun!

OR

Uhm... I'll keep working on more ideas. :/

14. Any other job potentials? Here? There? I mean not just in your field.

Anything else looking interesting?

18. Not that I could live on
I've got student loans, parental loans, a car payment, health issues (I have to have insurance) and on and on.

19. What about working two so-so jobs until something better comes along?

I've been there. Not the best arrangement, but at the time it is what I needed to do.

20. I'm giving it a week so I can travel if I need to
then I'll hit the grocery stores and shops. I worked nights and weekends as a cashier in Columbus so I should be able to find something.

I still have unemployment, but it's a very, very small amount.

5. I agree with DA --
go for what you want -- see if there can be a phone or video conference interview and then take the next step.

You deserve to work somewhere you'd like to be, and for an organization you believe in.

If you get the job, let's see what can be done to get you home.

7. Thanks...
There are no guarantees with either position. I don't have an offer from the interview today and they're going out on a limb hiring me (financially...) And the hospital may not even move forward past the first interview. So, I'll wait and see.

6. I agree with DA, too.
I moved to NorCal with my (now ex) husband in 2004, and I was miserable. Loved the place, but not the people, and for the first time in my life EVER had horrible job karma.

I left him (for other reasons) and moved back to LA two years ago (a place I never dreamed I'd get homesick for), and I've been a million times happier. If your heart wants to be back in Ohio, then by all means go if that comes up as a possibility.

I wish you all the best luck--we all want to see you happy! :pals:

10. Yeah! Back to Cbus! Yeah!

Seriously though, if you need a loan for gas money, just PM me. Weddings turn out to be surprisingly profitable. ;)

12. LOL -- apparently people interpreted "no gifts, please"

as "send us a check." We're going to use some of it for a trip this winter, hopefully. :)

13. Another in agreement with DA.
Phone or video conference would seem reasonable.

I'll also bet a day's wages that should it come down to do or die, this is the interview, "I'm going home" thing...that DU finds some money for you.

I couldn't ask the amazing, generous people of DU to help again. I've got some things I can sell and/or pawn.

I'll finally break down and tell my parents. My mother's cancer status isn't as good as we were originally told. She's going back in for more radical surgery as soon as they can get her in. Also, everything they have is in stocks. They took a HUGE hit and honestly? My father keeps a spreadsheet with money given to any of us kids. And I was supposed to be the smart, "most likely to succeed" daughter. Oh well... At least I'm living down to their expectations of failing and failing very well. x(

Sorry, that just kind of had to come out...

15. Do NOT give up hoping for what you want, lizziegrace. You deserve
a turn in your luck. Find a way to do the interview in Columbus.

We're all holding good thoughts for you.

17. Funny
I was just going through mail and catalogs to recycle and shred and found this quote "It's Never To Live Happily Ever After".

How appropriate, huh??
