"Somebody's got the 'Hungry Horrors'!"
Every other day or so I decide to go get breakfast when we start work. I'm usually hungry enough to eat that meal, but I usually skip it. Over the last few weeks however, our work load has been light (sometimes nonexistent) so I've been going out to get bacon and eggs or a muffin or an egg sandwich. etc to kill some time. Every single time I get breakfast (save for today for some reason) the 55 year old, very proud to be hick douche I'm forced to work with until the end of November bellows at me (with a big douchey grin), "Somebody's got the 'Hungry Horrors'!"

I generally want to stick an ice-pick through his eye for several reasons but this has really gotten under my skin for some reason. December can't come soon enough.

Do any of you use this phrase? The only person I know that uses it is my 60 y.o. mother. I sometimes want to say to the guy, "Yes, I get it, you're old! You're obviously close to my parents' ages."

1. No, but it was one of my mother's favorite expressions
and now that she's gone I think of her when I do hear it back in Maine.

4. So it is an old expression
and I'm guessing a NE one. I'm fine with it (despite it being outdated) except for hearing it every day for me eating a meal I'm supposed to be eating every day. Granted, he eats his breakfast at about 4am every day so he may think I'm eating again a few hours later.

14. Yeah, it's an old NE expression.
Your co-worker may still be what bertha katzenengel calls a cow-irker though.

2. Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays!

I've never even heard of the "hungry horrors." You have my sympathy for having to work with someone so annoying!

5. I googled it
and there's a ton of hits - mostly from people on diets complaining of the 'hungry horrors.'

I always take it as being stoned. And I'm not thanks to the local shortage. :eyes:

9. I take it you don't have an old parent, or grandparent from this area?
That was a common phrase when I was growing up. Haven't heard it in about 2 decades.
