How do milk and melamine even get mixed?
are they like on the shelf next to each other or something?

are the chinese characters similar?

1. melamine gives "body" to liquids I think

That was the problem with the pet food..Somebody decided it would be a cheap way to thicken the gravy in wet foods. Some bright person thought they could sell milk cheaper by cutting out a little milk and adding melamine most likely.

Also can boost the protein content of food illeagally.

4. I thought it was that when tested it looked like protien on the tests
and thus was a cheap way to make food seem more nutritious than it really was?

5. Don't quote me..
because I'm not a chemist, but it might do both..It definitely will boost the apparant protein content.
China has a thriving black market..its evident someone has a large supply of melamine they are trying to get rid of. I wouldn't be surprised if its the same source that contaminated the pet food.

it's not an accident

melamine is probably cheaper than actually using the milk.

hence bigger profits.

dogs die, babies die, who cares? as long as more money is made. yea, doing business with china is a great idea :sarcasm:
