What kind of theme/decor does your living space have?
We got kind of a rustic rural country home with artifacts from our travels hanging on the walls, tons of bookshelves everywhere. A lot of Native American stuff(not cheesy flea market type stuff), hard wood floors, brick fireplace with mantle. After leaving this place for a while, I remember coming back and feeling how cozy it was, it felt like a cabin in the woods. A lot of nature themed stuff and naturalist guide books, wife always has flowers from the garden in the summer on the table. Country living and gardening. I don't know what that would be, maybe "urban refugee" or "naturalist retreat".

23. A Swiffer helps
But not much. No matter how much you brush the critters, they shed like maniacs. Our long-haired kitty sends wads of fur flying every time she sits down to scratch herself.

6. Ours isn't finished yet
but I think it really is best to go for comfort and a warm welcoming atmosphere rather than go with a theme. Themes carried throughout the decor of a room or home wear thin rather quickly and pretty soon you're stuck with a whole lotta junk you're tired of looking at. Themes become trite after a while. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people selling their themed decor items on craigslist because they're tired of them. Tastes do change.

14. Theme?

I'd say early cat barf (alpha male kitteh's stomach is so sensitive I need a holster for the cleaning spray and roll of paper towels) with some influence of late-era Lego and Matchbox.

Seriously, we have a fairly old house (about 140 years old), and although I'd like to decorate my house with appropriate pieces, I don't want to live in a museum. I tend to buy whatever strikes my fancy at antique stores and flea markets, plus we have a bunch of odds and ends that are new, so I guess we're officially "eclectic".

17. We've got a house with clean lines and lots of cool art
The furniture is a mix of modern, some of my grandma's end tables and such, and a couple of truly cheapo assemble-it-yourself pieces. I guess you'd call that eclectic. The art is a mixture, too -- some abstract, some semi-abstract, some semi-realistic. Lots of rich colors on the walls -- goldenbrown, eggplant, greenish-gold, other earth tones. The kids' spaces are a bit cluttery looking (no surprise there) but elsewhere we try to not have a lot of crap gathering dust. We have one room (living room) with a vaulted ceiling and lots of windows looking out on our foresty yard, so it's kind of like being in a treehouse in that room.

My house is pretty cute, but I'm still working on accent pieces to pull some of the rooms together. Unfortunately I didn't inherit my mother's genius for that kind of thing.

Thrift Store with Flowers. It was great except for that avocado three piece sectional which was definitely out of place. It was fun, though. :)

22. Post-divorce
I kept the antiques I inherited (just a couple pieces) and bartered for some others doing tax work. The rest is stuff I could put together or do without. Lelapin's bed is the one I got when I was 6. You make do.

A few quilts I made and lots of photographs and prints clutter the walls.

25. In progress - we put down hardwood flooring in two rooms back before
my youngest was born. My husband hauled all the woodwork to the barn intending to strip it and stain it. Well, she's graduating high school this year and the woodwork is still in the barn. We've been a little busy.

I've been meaning to clean off the porch for a while - I just realized that the fact that I have Kerry-Edwards signs sitting out there means that "a while" is coming up on 4 years!

27. Shabby Crap with pee-stained carpets and fur covered furniture
Our poor eldest dog has bladder issues and has been leaking all over (we use doggie diapers but she still leaks)

We have 3 dogs and 1 cat so our furniture has been chewed, covered in fur and busted up.

I wish we could afford better stuff but I would rather have the pets comfy

30. "Ooohhh-- it looks like a Hobbit Hole!"
I honestly tried to go with a somewhat early Georgian look to my apartment living room, but three or four independent verifiers (i.e., different dates at different times) have each one said, "Ooohhh-- your place looks cozy just like a Hobbit Hole!"

Well, I like it, so there... :P

33. Contemporary, with Dog Hair Accents
The carpet and much of the furniture is accented with tufts of samoyed fur. They're both blowing their summer coats. So, I guess you'd say the color scheme is beige, green, and white.

39. Minimalism with accents in primary colors.
This little egg is the smallest space I've ever lived in (about 700 sq ft) and it's perfect for me right now. The walls are some kind of wedding cake white that I got at Home Depot. The few kitchen cabinets are light oak and there's a small counter top with that poisonous granite top but, it's also very light. Mostly southern exposures, hardwood flooring, a nice high ceiling.

The few pieces of furniture are small, also light oak and picked to scoot out of the way except for the big couch (which rests on the Concordance to Shakespeare where its front left leg should be.) The few appliances disappear into the white walls. (I'd like to ditch this big frig for a small office sized one. I don't need to freeze a side of beef.) What stands out is the framed abstract art and my stuff in progress on easels of all sizes. I'm single now so there are paint brushes in the dish rack and cat hair on the sofa. Urban Closet with Turpentine, Cats.

lol

41. Cottage style built
in the 20's
Hardwood floors, glass doorknobs.
It's a work in progress. Did some electric upgrades, just did the plumbing, converted the fireplace to gas logs after chimney repairs. Next thing to tackle is the exterior.
I collect chickens (uh...not live ones, but in this economy a chicken coop probably wouldn't be a bad idea if the zoning would allow it, which it won't and mr 'pede would give up his shop, which he won't) and they are displayed around the house.
Also like to put out old photos of the parental units, grandparents, etc. Have Mommie Dearest at 16 (1927) and Dad in his Merchant Marine dress uniform (c 1944).
Have a good studio portrait of mr 'pede's grandfather in his WWI naval uniform that I need to find a frame for ('nother uh...not our navy).
