Travis Shaffer didn't make it very hard for investigators to do a background check on him when he applied for a job at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
During a polygraph examination at sheriff's headquarters in San Bernardino last month, Shaffer, 28, of Mentone, told the polygraph examiner he stole a gas generator, valued at $3,500, from his previous employer and never returned it. He also said he carried a 9mm Glock in his vehicle.
Shaffer also told the examiner he bought and sold pain pills, marijuana and the drug Ecstasy, and raked in as much as $69,000 in profits from drug sales, according to a search warrant affidavit filed in San Bernardino Superior Court. snip
Shaffer didn't land the job with the Sheriff's Department, where he was seeking a position as a mechanic. And it looks as though he'll skirt felony charges of drug possession and drug sales after a search of his home, in the 1300 block of Garnet Street, failed to produce the necessary evidence - drugs - to make charges stick, authorities said.
