What is your biggest fear and why do you have that fear
I guess for me it's falling. Now I think that's a bit different than heights. Heights don't bother me. If I don't feel like I am going to fall I am perfectly fine. Hell I have done repelling and bungie jumping. However put me on a ladder or some place that I feel like there is a good chance I can fall and...:scared:

2. A serious illness.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 09:00 AM by PeterU
I'm no germophobe and can handle your average cold or flu. But a serious illness--like a cancer or some neurological disease--where there is no easy cure (or no cure at all), I'm forever scared of getting. Or a sudden heart attack or stroke that manifests itself out of the blue. I am a major hypochondriac.

3. My biggest fear is the superflu
I'm talking like the Spanish influenza of 1918 which killed 20-40 million people. The Black Death didn't come close to that kind of mortality rate.

I don't watch the news whenever the latest Hong Kong Chicken flu story breaks. Ignorance is bliss.

Whenever I see a homeless person, I can't but help wonder if he or she once had a normal and stable life, and whether there was one spark that caused everything to collapse.

People often do suck. Even if they don't there are often situations that make them act in a sucky manner, at least from some people's perspective. Worse yet we often find ourselves saying goodbye to the rare non-sucky ones. Unfortunately the only constant in life is change. All we can hope for is to try and keep our hellos balancing our good byes and our good changes out numbering the bad ones. Can't stop the bad stuff, we can only work on increasing the good.

15. Edges - I'm afraid of things like balconies, cliffs, ledges, etc.
Up to about six floors, I'm OK, but any higher and it's sheer panic mode. I'm not afraid of flying, because airliners don't have edges. It makes no sense, but that's the essence of a phobia, isn't it?

Edited on Fri Sep-26-08 05:29 PM by Liberalynn
ain't gonna go quietly. I am afraid they are going to declare martial law and call off the elections, and declare themselves a totalitarian government.
:scared:

I guess I have that fear because of the course work I did while at college, studying Nazi Germany and the U.S.S.R.

My other fear is dying in a car crash. I was in a car where the breaks went out, and an eighteen wheeler was coming the other way. Luckily the driver behind us realized somehting was wrong, locked his bumper with ours and started breaking with his car, and my mother stayed calm and steered us out of the way. No crash, thank heaven.

Obviously we survived but I have been terrified ever since. I also had a recurring dream of driving a car, coming up to a yield sign, another car is coming, the driver doesn't yield, I hit the breaks, but they don't work, then I wake up.

It took me until I was 36 to overcome this fear enough to get my liscense but I am still a white knuckle driver at best, I only drive when I absolutely have to, and I don't even like to ride in a car that much either.

38. Sharks, Jaws(the movie)....
I was born/raised on a remote island in SE Alaska, and after watching Jaws when I was a wee lad, I cannot take a swim in the ocean without imagining Jaws coming up from underneath me to take a hunk outta my hide....

I hardly swim in the ocean anymore, the last time I recall doing so was summer of 95, and the whole time I was just getting anxiety over a shark coming to get me...Its weird I know, but thats how I am about Sharks...

42. Rejection.
Allowing myself to invest all my time, my energy, and my love into someone who claimed he felt the same way and gave me those same things - only to one day, without warning, tell me it's not enough for him.....and says goodbye forever.

Hands down the worst event of my life - something that I would never want to experience again. And I will do my damnedest to make sure I never do.

I'm terrified of what my final days will be like. :(
