Seattle DU'ers: How is it like living there?
Say compared to the bay area?

Is the traffic still horrible?

It seems to be a solid Blue town - is that the case?

Thinking of moving the Taverner Family there...

That would require a lobotomy anyway. ;)

4. We've been in the area for 10 years now
and we love it. Traffic isn't all that great, but can also depend on where you live and work. We live just outside Seattle in Renton and my wife takes the bus to work and it suits her just fine. Plenty of expresses to get her to and from on time.
I on the other hand drive because of my hours, which are way off peak traffic hours, so I rarely hit traffic.
Weather is great, a little rain in winter(been getting more snow in the last couple years) Summer was lousy this year, but before that, we hade a solid 5 year run of awesome summers
Great activities indoors and out. Lots of mountains to go play in, oceans, lakes and rivers.
Close to Canada, 3 hours to Vancouver.
Seattle does have a really good nightlife, good eats. 2 pro teams, the Seahawks and Mariners who suck at the moment. If you don't know we lost the Sonics to a slimy dude in Oklahoma.
It's a way of life out here, not just a place to live. For me anyway, people seem different, a little off beat, more, accepting for the most part. It's a Pacific Northwest thing, it can be jarring for some, and others slide right into it.
Hope this helps......

8. OH really?
Renton was the butt of a lot of jokes back in the day, but it's seems to have come out the other side for the better. A lot of construction has improved the town and more to come.
The really good thing about Renton is the access to various roads to Seattle. You can take 405 to 90, or 405s outh to I-5 or even cut across 900(MLK Jr Way) to SOuth Seattle and onto I-5.
Access to shopping near and far. Lots of new stores have gone up down by the Boeing Plant, the new place is called "The Landing" that has a Fry's, Lowes, Target, Petsmart, restaurants, theatres etc.

9. My prospective office is right off the 405, sort of near the 167.
I would like to rent a small house, condo, townhouse or duplex. I've lived in a house for so long, I don't want to go back to an apartment, but I can't afford to buy (and don't want to right away).

I pass through that area a lot and it seems like a decent area.

5. It's pretty good.
1. It's cheaper than the bay area, though it's still not cheap to live anywhere in the city. It's probably a good time to buy, as people seem to be slashing prices and the price of renting has gone up.

2. Oh yes. The traffic is hideous and parking downtown is expensive. Public transportation isn't as good as San Francisco or anything, but the buses are fine.

3. Pretty much. We have our share of Republicans. If it's any indication, the Republican candidate for Governor likened himself to Obama in a campaign commercial and claims to "protect the most needy." It's not true, of course. But that's what the GOP has to say here.

4. It's a great place to grow up. There are mountains, beaches, forests, parks, and all sorts of places to see.
