Another reason I hate Walmart (or, did anyone see the Biggest Loser last night?)
Okay, my husband and I are big fans of the Biggest Loser, having been on our own weight-loss journey for the past two years. It's very inspiring and uplifting, unlike most other reality shows.

Anyway, most of the adverts you see on the show are for water, yogurt, low-cal foods, gyms, etc. Except last night they played an ad from Walmart. It was comprised of moms making "snacks" for the family to eat while watching football. These snacks included huge cakes, chips and dip, Doritos, and other fattening, processed foods. This was made worse by the fact that the moms were shown being extra "generous" with the portion sizes because they saved so much money at Walmart. So instead of a ring of Doritos around the dip bowl, she dumped a whole huge bag all over the platter. YAY MOM! :eyes:

I turned to my husband and said "That's a weird ad to be playing during the Biggest Loser" to which he replied "Well, they know their target audience."

Which of course is true, but how incredibly cynical and manipulative for Walmart to essentially prey on people who are watching a show, hoping to find inspiration and motivation to make a change in their lives. Yuck. It struck me as a very Republican tactic, which doesn't surprise me coming from Walmart.

1. Okay, anyone just want to talk about Biggest Loser?
I guess I'm the only one who thought it strange.

2. I don't watch the show, but the ad placement should be considered strange
unless someone assumes that the demographics for that show include a lot of over-eating people who aren't dieting. That may be true as weird as it sounds --- it would be the people who want to weigh less but haven't yet gotten to the point of accepting that their food choices need to change.
