4. That they did
Though Lucy had to ad-lib some physical comedy after her eggs broke, like wiping her shirt and shaking her leg, because they probably didn't anticipate that much laughter. It was the longest laugh the show ever got — just short of a minute.

Oh, also, Lucy didn't use eggs in rehearsals. She didn't want to anticipate the feeling of them, so her reaction during filming would be real.

6. Me, too
It would've been like being a part of history.

Oh, you know that "Uh-oh" you'd hear in a lotta episodes when Lucy was about to get into something? That was dubbed, and it was her mom. :)

8. I doubt it
Teevee was still in a kind of "experimental" stage then and was still considered a fad by many people. I'd bet nobody — not even Desi, who had the business acumen to get the rights to the shows — imagined it'd still be popular more than 50 years later. (Nobody knew what syndication was then. He more or less invented it.) CBS apparently didn't imagine it, since they sold him the rights for a song.

But when you think now of the phenomenon the show was, it's hard to think they didn't know they had something ultra-special. Businesses closed early so employees could go home and watch it. Telephone use dropped while it was on, as did water pressure a minute or two after it ended as millions of people went to the bathroom. When Desi Jr. was born (Jan. 20, 1953), in many newspapers the story ran above Eisenhower's inauguration. It didn't just beat all the other shows in the ratings, it humiliated them with more than 50 percent of all TVs tuned in to it. When Little Ricky was born, that show got something like 70 percent. (Granted, there wasn't nearly as much competition then as there is now, but still...)

There's never been another series that approached its success, and I don't think there ever will be.
