Getting ready for your "yearly" is like preparing for a date.
Purse and money? Check.
Appropriate clothing? Check.
Deodorant? Check.
Teeth brushed? Check.
Legs shaved? Check.
All the way up, not just the parts that show in a skirt? yes. duh. Check.
Carefully monitoring time to avoid tardiness? Check.
Reasonable assumption that some guy will see my bits? Check.

Yeah...somehow, though, the Dr's appointment is really not quite as appealing.

1. What I don't understand is
Why do we actively screen women (unpleasant though it is) for cancer, but with guys we just wait until they get cancer?

3. I don't know.
Different kinds of cancer, different screening methods... I'm no expert on the subject!
Perhaps because so many women have the HPV virus and it's often very treatable and curable if caught early.

10. now, go read about prostate cancer...
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 02:32 PM by jasonc
or are you suggesting that simply because it is not caused by HPV that we don't need to be screened for it?

and yes, men are screened for it, or should be. We just don't go.

11. 1. i thought we were discussing hpv. 2. men are screened for prostate
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 02:23 PM by lionesspriyanka

billyskank asked why men arent screened, i assume for HPV so i answered accordingly.

prostate cancer is screened as part of a regular exam after a certain age. if you choose not to get tested, that not really a problem with the medical community. and also not part of what billyskank asked about.

33. really?
point out the times I do that...

LOL.

Billyskank asked a very clear question. She did not answer it, but instead assumed something else and answered a question that was not asked. I am going to give Billyskank the benefit of the doubt and say he is pretty sure why he is not getting a screening for cervical cancer. I replied to her and the original question. Where it went from there, is not my doing.

Some people do not take it well when you do not bow down to them and follow every word they utter as if it came from god... Sorry, I refuse to bow down at the altar of Lionness...

maybe you need to read the ENTIRE thread instead of jumping on the attack jason bandwagon.

25. I don't know about you, but now that I'm past 40
I get the finger once a year. Trust me, even though I'm gay, it's not something that I look forward to.

are you talking about that women are actively screened for that men are not?

2. quit whining now
Some guy gets to 'see your bits.' You won't believe what the Doctor does to us guys when he tells us to bend over. I always select a Doctor with very small fingers.

17. I don't shave my legs for a first date
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 02:42 PM by MissMillie
that's a great incentive for me to keep things from getting too physical too quickly.

I make no assumption that some guy will see my bits... in fact, I look to avoid that on the first date. (And in reading this to my office mate, he says he wants your number...)

(oh, and I never shave above the knee... and I think that's why I've never had to)

Why would a doctor care what you're wearing... you'll be in an examination gown by the time the doc sees you...

22. I make a perfectly nice post about my pelvic exam and what do you people do?
:spank: :spank: :spank:

And for the record, it lasted about sixty seconds and I'm pretty certain it was better for him than it was for me.
Also, he brought up Palin, mid-exam. Bad idea. I could have easily poked him in the eye with my toe.

27. What do female patients most hate to hear?
Just slide down and put your feet in the stirrups.
I know it is necessary but it is humiliating and painful.

I took care to make sure I practiced good hygiene, in every respect.

The only part I failed in was tardiness. There was not a parking spot to be found
