Every time I go there I get stuck with Subway or Chili's.

I want good food

I want different food

I want spice and flavor

Where is there to eat downtown?

1. Bakeman's on Cherry St.
It's a basement restaurant between 1st and 2nd on Cherry, right off of Pioneer Square.

Get the meatloaf or the turkey sandwich with cranberry. It's insanely good. And James Wang (the owner/cashier) is a fucking maniac. It's worth the cost of admission just to endure his abuse.

2. For dessert, I recommend Gelatiamo.
Third Ave. @ Union

Best stuff ever. Barbara and I had gelato there when in town for Andy's memorial. My last trip to Seattle also included a trip.

4. Strangely, there is no Olive Garden in downtown Seattle.
Losers.

And I'm thinking of moving there. Hmph.

5. Metropolitan Grill
It's on Second Avenue, near Madison or is Marion? It's a good steakhouse for lunch or dinner.
If you really want spice and flavor, I'd go for The Wild Ginger. It's on Third Avenue, around Union. It's open for both lunch and dinner, too.

6. It's a little touristy, but Lowell's in Pike Place Market has great views.
The fish and chips I ate there a few years ago was pretty good.

7. Any of the Tom Douglas resaurants are good.
If you like French food, Le Pichet on 1st and Stewart is quite good.

8. Lotsa places.
Lunch or dinner? Where is "downtown" for you? Fancy or hole-in-the-wall?

I'll help if I can.

:P

There are decent restaurants along the waterfront and near Pike Place. That's where I used to go as a default if I wasn't in a more interesting part of town. Outside of downtown, Ray's Boathouse does decent Northwest seafood.

11. If you don't mind a hike up to Capitol Hill
Siam's on Broadway is an excellent Thai restaurant that has the best Panang curry I've ever had.
