My dog is still at the boarding kennel, and the cat who LOVES her
is looking for her and crying. He's been going from one of her crates to the other, and then sitting at the door where she goes out, and just making the most mournful cry. I'll pick her up tonight, but until then, I guess he's gonna be sad. I wonder if he does this the whole time I'm gone. I think I'll go play with him, to take his mind off.

2. that's going to be one happy kitty tonight
It does sound as if she is in at least the first stage of grief. She needs play fer sure.

Hope they're together and content by now.

My daughter's cat knows what time she comes home from work. He wakes up about 15 minutes ahead of time and begins looking for her. If she works late he does that mournful merrrooooowwwww.
