I am in the market for a new digital camera
can anyone recommend a camera under $300 w.as little shutter lag as possible.

1. You can get an awful lot of digicam for your buck nowadays.
I recommended the Nikon Coolpix L18 to my cousin who is just getting into digital photography. You can take a pic about every 2 seconds or so for a good five consecutive pics. It's a damned good point and shoot and it can be had for $120 on Newegg.com.

2. I got a Canon PowerShot SD870 IS for my birthday...
it's great. I haven't tried many others though, so there may be better in that price range.

3. Check out the Fuji Finepix line
Some of the best pictures I ever took were from one of the older models, before I moved up to a higher priced camera.

5. I really like my Sony Cybershot.
Not sure how much it was though. Around $300 I think! Takes great pics.

just avoid for forums, they're full of partisanship and rancor!

There is a nice feature where you can select the features that you want in the camera and it will provide a list of cameras that have the specs you want.
