I see some good picks there. Leslie Mills is another great artist in the powerpop/independent pop genre that I forgot to put in my list.

Lately Leslie has been working with Yanni.

Regina Spektor is an rock/alternative artist I forgot to list.

I even like some metal, though I wouldn't say any are among my favorite artists.

can't believe I left out Patsy Cline in country and early to mid-period Michael Jackson in popular pop!

As you can see, I'm a pop-leaning music fan.

I could never make a comprehensive list without going through my whole collection. It certainly wouldn't be complete without The Indigo Girls, Byrds, James Taylor, The Pierces, Brandi Carlile, Stacie Rose, The Like, Amy Rigby, Sufjan Stevens, etc.

37. Re: Eagles.
There's also Allmans, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, etc...

Like I said, more representative than comprehensive.

I went to high school in the late 70's. Wasn't 'til the tail end of that decade that I became a full on metaller.

Ach! One band I always forget to list, but who were very representative of my high school years: Boston!

Tuvan throat music,
Bagpipes,
Gaitas,
Mariachi,
Batucada,
Jazz,
Rock & Roll,
Country & Western...

There's very little music I don't like:

Björk...

That's about it for the no list at the moment.

9. Jambands......
Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Galactic, Leftover Salmon,Blue Turtle Seduction etc.

I also like the older type of jambands like Zappa,Miles Davis, Monk, Santana, Hendrix, Ornette Coleman,Mahavisnu Orchestra etc. bands that go for it musically.

becasue I like al type of music as long as it is well played and not some pop shit that is suitable for the radio. The jamband label is so unfair. So many different genres fit under that big umbrella. Bluegrass, Jazz, Southern Rock, Musique Concrete', calypso, rock and roll, funk, R&B etc.

So many of them have their own original sounds that unmistakable when you hear them.

51. Not on my list of best bands ever but I saw them in 1991(?)
at a really small after hours club in Philadelphia. A group of us were bar hopping on South Street and met some people who were headed to their show at some strange alternative club that recently opened in an old bank building that had previously been some sort of church. None of us had ever heard of them but went along for the party. It was one of the best live performances I've ever seen and easily the highest energy show I ever witnessed. Loud as hell and fireworks in a bowling alley, but really awesome.

James Taylor, the Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, CSN&Y, CCR

Or

Mowtown Classics like the Temps, Al Green, Four Tops

Or

Classic Rock bands like Yes, Boston, Floyd, Styxx, Springsteen

Really just depends on my mood at the time.
