My little puppy is mean
All he does is attack shit, the 2 older dogs are like 10x his size but they stay away from them and this puppy has no problem attacking them either. I don't pet him, he'll try to bite my hand if I do, right now he is trying to eat my shoe while I'm wearing them.

3. Less then a year, pit bull
I know he'll habits will change as he is very young, he is going after one of the dogs right now.

The other 2 are both German Shepard/Rottweiller (The nicest dogs in the world) and is about 4 years old each

And she's a very well trained girl, I must say. Good habits are learned, be the teacher! (youtube is video of a silly trick I taught her, video was taken when she was roughly 6 months old).

2. What are you doing to train him?
Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 05:36 PM by dropkickpa
A sharp, loud, high pitched yelp and getting up and walking away is usually sufficient to stop biting, and if you use this method consistently, he'll make the connection "I bite, they go away AND and unpleasant sound occurrs, hmmm, maybe I'll not bite and see if the sound goes away and play continues. It does! Yippee!!". Even very young pups are able to be trained, it just takes patience and consistency.

4. That
I get on him if he tries to bite human skin and he gets it. He just doesn't feel like getting petted yet

I get on him as well when he is destroying stuff but I can't catch him everytime, whenever I leave I lock him up in about a 8 by 10 cage.

9. You've gotta be alpha, mate.
Right now, your puppy is running the house it seems.

10. If you say so
I let him run around, attack stuffed animals, and play with the other dogs. Other then that he is learning what is appropriate. I've only had him for a few days.

11. Okay, few days. May still be adjusting.
But when he does something inappropriate, you have to be consistent in your training. He needs to learn "no" right away, both for his good and yours. He also needs to learn "good boy" right away. All training should be positive reinforcement, too.

What does he do at feeding time?

12. Gets very excited
Usually sits there wagging it's tail waiting for me to put the bowl down so he can devour all of it.

I'm not completely a novice as I researched a few times, like a dog usually wont understand if you are punishing him or her for something he/she did 3 hours ago.

My only problem is I caught him a few times trying to #2 on the floor I yell no and take him outside but he just runs back inside and holds it. I'm having a hard time to communicate that if you want to go, just go outside. (there is a doggie door that connects to the patio.

13. Okay, good. He's not food aggressive, it seems.
Thing is, he needs to be taken outside and stay there until he goes. Then highly praised when he does go.

14. Take the poop out with you
put it where you want him to go, and praise him! Also, take him out for the bathroom on a leash, and praise him when he goes, telling him "Good poop!" or "Good pee!" or even just a generic "Good potty!". He'll learn pretty quickly that papa gets real happy when he craps outside! All he knows right now is that you aren't happy when he drops a deuce, so he's scared to go.

5. Good advice. Do not wait for him to outgrow bad habits. It never happens without
training.

15. Nothing worse than an untrained pit bull. For the sake of the dog and others
get training him right away.

16. the Dog Whisperer would recommend teaching him..
...that YOU are the pack leader and that you expect calm, submissive behavior. This is basically done by walking all three dogs together -- that's what packs of dogs do. I suggest that you watch some episodes of the Dog Whisperer either on TV or on his DVD.
