Anyone know of a shampoo that's safe for cats?
I'm not talking about cat or pet shampoos in particular, but rather some type of "regular" shampoo that is found around the house, I'm just wondering if baby shampoo is safe for cats. The last thing I need is a cat who suffers an allergic reaction to it. I don't need anti-flea stuff, and I really don't want to spend 15+ dollars on Shampoo I will only use maybe twice a year, max.

Oh, and before anyone asks why a cat needs a bath in the first place, this cat is different. Her name is Zero and when she was a kitten she suffered a spinal cord injury that, while it didn't paralyze her, made her less flexible than other cats. As a result, she cannot clean herself properly, period, so occasionally I have to do it.

Oh yes, one more thing, she's still fully armed, pray for me! :scared:

1. Poor thing-- something very gentle, I would think. Don't want it
to strip too much oil from her skin...

Good luck

2. No.
Feline skin is much "thinner" than ours and is very sensitive. Please talk to your vet for a good feline shampoo recommendation.

3. We've always used baby wash when bathing our cats.
Either Johnson's Baby Wash, or a generic. Figure that's got to be pretty gentle. Rinse thoroughly (or as much as you can before you start bleeding...)

4. Make sure you clip her nails first
I would think something like real baby shampoo (not the bargain stuff) woud be okay, but I am not a vet, so I don't know for sure. They have other methods of cleaning a cat besides soap and water you may want to check on. Cat bites can be nasty.

5. Believe it or not, a cat's skin is more delicate
than a baby's. You should not use any human shampoo, not even baby shampoo.

6. Well, thanks for the advice, I think I'll take the "better safe than sorry" approach...
and just go out and buy some cat formulated shampoo. She won't like it in either case, so still send me some good vibes, and if you don't ever hear from me again, you'll know I died from a very vicious mauling! :D

9. Update: just finished cleaning her and drying her...
She is very very pissed off right now! :scared: She got me a couple of times, especially on the wrist, but I think I'll pull through. Uhm, question, is blood supposed to spray out with this much force? I'm getting dizzy....*thump*.

12. ....
You made me think of the SNL sketch where Dan Akroyd is doing Julia Child and "severs an artery"...

I tried to find the video to post a link, but could not locate it.

13. I saw that one "live"...
I had a friend whose cousin worked on the make-up for that skit. He got us tickets to see the show in the studio. What a blast! :)
