Sports that should be in the Olympics, but aren't
I'd like to see the following added to the Olympics:

Billiards (pool), especially 9-ball

Canine events (with dogs and handlers as teams): dog agility, flyball, dog obedience. Dogs must be vet-certified as healthy and well-treated with no evidence of cruelty or doggie diseases. Looking at those pooches flying through all those obstacles with such precision and communication with humans should be a sight for the world to see, especially animal lovers. Unlike the horses in the equestrian events, the dogs should receive medals along with their human handlers.

7. getting rid of softball bothered me too
I can (almost) understand why they got rid of baseball because of the whole MLB issue, but to get rid of softball because the US is really really good at it is just stupid...especially considering what occurred in the gold medal game. Removing a sport because one nation is dominant isn't fair to all the athletes, it should serve as a challenge to other nations to step it up, which Japan clearly did this year. It's like saying get rid of table tennis because China wins 99% of those gold medals...it's just not fair to the athletes that have spent the majority of their lives training.

Yeah, that one bothered me too

8. Apply the reasoning by which they dropped softball to men's basketball.
I would be thrilled if ALL sports went back to amateurs only. I thought that's what it was supposed to be about. Oh, well.

10. Amateurs and any qualifying athlete
Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 12:04 PM by DaveTheWave
I can't remember where or if I watched or read where some of the young athletes who qualify but don't have a life story that will make people endear them are also left out. You have two kids with about the same stats but one comes from a middle-class family and trained hard but the other was an only child whose father abandoned their family and the mom was on crack all the time so he/she had to raise the family in addition to training, etc. If there's too many people on the roster the kid with no drama in his/her life usually gets cut. Better ratings that way.

Not sure if that's entirely accurate or factual but the people they interviewed were individuals who were cut, that's what they were told and they were trying to sue.

5. Rollerball.

That'll separate the men from the boys. Team with the most players still alive at the end of the game wins the gold. There's no silver or bronze medals...
