Our music director forwarded me an e-mail from a guy who wants us to sponsor his concert series next year and I took exception to his tone; it was very "you owe us" ish because the station and his concert series are in the same city (even though only 11% of our listenership is in that city and only 9% of our support). I replied that I didn't much care for the guy's attitude and sense of entitlement, that more goes into a sponsorship than being in the same town, but that I'd speak with him.
Then I sent the e-mail to him. I had forgotten that this particular program replies to the original sender not the person who forwarded it.
I didn't know I'd done this until I got a message from him saying he was looking forward to our talk with my message right below it. Yikes.
I immediately responded apologizing for having sent him that message saying that it was for someone else and from another e-mail. Which is true, in a way. But I feel horrible anyway and he hasn't responded yet.
Ouch.
