I did something horrible today
Our music director forwarded me an e-mail from a guy who wants us to sponsor his concert series next year and I took exception to his tone; it was very "you owe us" ish because the station and his concert series are in the same city (even though only 11% of our listenership is in that city and only 9% of our support). I replied that I didn't much care for the guy's attitude and sense of entitlement, that more goes into a sponsorship than being in the same town, but that I'd speak with him.

Then I sent the e-mail to him. I had forgotten that this particular program replies to the original sender not the person who forwarded it.

I didn't know I'd done this until I got a message from him saying he was looking forward to our talk with my message right below it. Yikes.

I immediately responded apologizing for having sent him that message saying that it was for someone else and from another e-mail. Which is true, in a way. But I feel horrible anyway and he hasn't responded yet.

Ouch.

2. another reason to hate modern technology!
Still, at least he now knows what you think. Maybe he'll think about his tone more in future.

3. that sounds like a pretty shitty e-mail set up
when I do things like that it is my mistake - hitting that ol' "oh shit" button. if there was ever a need for a pop up window, one asking "are you sure you want to reply all?" would be it!

4. Oh I've done that... or had something of mine accidentally forwarded to someone else
who definitely was not intended to read it. Not a good feeling at all... but it sounds like you had plausible explanation. :) I wouldn't worry too much about it. If anything, you didn't incriminate him, and you DID give him something to think about, that he apparently SHOULD think about. Win-win. :D
