Has anybody used Monster.com with success?
I'm going to be a college graduate come May and am starting my job search. Does this internet site hold any merits when it comes to getting interviews and job leads??

Any info would be great. Thanks!

2. I think it's helpful
it seems as if a lot of headhunters use that site. I don't work outside the home, but I use Monster when helping my husband, mother, or friends search for a new job. What industry are you looking to get into? There are other good job sites too, but it helps to know what kind of work you want to be doing.

3. I'm looking for a job in the financial industry
I live in NJ so a commute to NYC wouldn't be a problem

8. I'll start looking around
The financial industry probably has special job search sites. I'll see what I can find. Would you be willing to relocate?

10. I'm actually looking to relocate to Westchester NY
So a job in that area or NYC would be best.

Thanks so much for the help! It is much appreciated! :hi:

4. Actually, yes. Got my current job through Monster...
...but I was responding to a job posting - no one came after me based on my resume.

A heaping helping of serendipity - job quals matched my experience and I did not have to move. This was in September of 2001, so the BIG layoffs had not yet started, and even Enron had not yet declared bankruptcy.

Not much help, I know, but it does happen...best of luck!

5. It's Excellent for the Legal Profession
I have gotten both support staff gigs and attorney gigs on monster.com, including my current Senior Trial Attorney gig.

Employers probably hate it. Too much like a union hiring hall. Limits their ability to bullsh*t their employees into thinking they're paying them enough.

6. I posted a resume
...and got a response from the makers of a software package I absolutely hate using, but listed as a skill. They were looking for folks for their consulting team.

I also once got a response from someone looking for a guy to go to India to work in my field. I told him it wouldn't be me.

7. I found my current IT job on Monser.com
Of course it took me at least 2000 applications over nearly three years. It's really dependent on the job market. I think I just got lucky on this one because they couldn't find anyone else willing to relocate to Butthole, Alabama.

9. im in the same boat as you
what im finding is that monster is pretty good. Not that I've found A JOB or anything, but i have received responses indicating that people got my resume. No takers yet, though.

To sum up, if you have anybody you can borrow money from in the coming months - do it - cause it's either that or McDonald's for your, and my, well-educated asses.

I've found a few leads but they haven't panned out. I've been using it only a month though.

Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 07:11 AM by Thankfully_in_Britai
And I got a phone call offering me a job interview within a hour of that. I really wish I had got that job as well.

So yes, I do reccomend Monster.com.
