...ones that broadcast your identity to the whole world? If so, keep it wrapped in tinfoil, you never know who's sniffing.

Fortunately, my passport has a few years on it yet, so I've got a little time before I'm absorbed into the Vast Machine.

dunno about biometrics though. Just the usual picture.

15. The chip contains pretty much all the info on the passport.

Unfortunately, they didn't really think about the carrier's security and privacy, though, because the chip can be read at a distance using cheap, commercially-available RFID scanners and antennas.

Basically, the damned things look like they were invented specifically to make identity theft easier than ever. Thieves can sit in an airport lounge and harvest the identities of everyone walking past, without even leaving the comfort of their chair.

The only defense is to carry the damned passport wrapped in aluminium foil or one of the foil-lined passport wallets that have become popular in the past few years.
