Cat, stop trying to nurse!
I mean, it looks bad.

My cat is curled up in my lap. His face is pressed into my boob. His paws are kneading my boob.

It really looks like he thinks he's going to get some MoriahMilk.

1. annoying to you but kind of sad for the kitty
Poor kitty was probably weaned too young.
Can you post over at the Pets forum? They might have some suggestions on how to redirect the cat's nursing habit.

2. Kneading anything reminds them of the heaven of being a kitten. Be happy

you have a little critter to bond with. Redirect your cat's kneading to a thick blanket or your stomach or something if you are uncomfortable with him neading your breats. I've never had that problem. Mine both knead the blankets or my stomach.

4. I'm very lucky, I know. I nearly lost him recently.

Bladder stones are bad. He's really a sweet cat. But I have had too many cracks from my man about weaning him from the teat lately, I kind of had to share. I spend most of my mornings checking my email with him there.

Fortunately he's not actually employing suction. He's just nuzzling close and kneading. And while I would never have done it, his previous owners declawed him, so he's only causing pressure-related pain, not puncture wounds.

It was kind of cute the first 50 times. Now everytime my man sees it he laughs. "He's 7 years old already, shouldn't you have weaned him already?"

On a side note, he does seem to prefer women's breast/underarm area to nuzzle -- my vet commented that during his long hospitalization the first thing he would do when pulled from the cage was tuck his head under her arm up there. (Bad thing about that is with him being a Himalayan, he has the eye gook thing going on -- I generally keep him all cleaned up but if I forget a day it's all over my tshirt.)

5. Cats don't use their claws when they are kneading. I have two that
do it. I too have a male who had the bladder stones. Was terribly painful for him. Glad the vet was close by.

Try redirecting your cat down to your stomach (if you have any fat there). My cats use mine to knead and it doesn't feel weird.

3. My cat nurses too...though thankfully not on ME.
That would be a bit strange. Can you give your kitty something else to suck on?

Mine has a bed like this, which is her favorite thing to suck on:

Actually, she goes for anything with that fabric. It's soft and a little bit fuzzy, so I guess it reminds her of mama cat.

6. Our new kitten Missy does that to our teenage cat Siggy.
He's a long haired cat, and he looks up from time to time to ask "What did I do to deserve this?"

9. Funny story about cats deciding to nurse off of their friends...
This is true, I swear.

About 10 years ago my boyfriend and I adopted a pair of kittens from his mother. Her female, a black cat, had a litter and they were able to find homes for two of them, but the others were SOL. The kitties were about 10 weeks old when we adopted them. While that might not seem too early, apparently it was for the boy we adopted.

He had a nursing/wool sucking habit. He particularly liked the flannel sheets on our bed. But he also liked one of the dogs in the house.

The pup, a half Great Pyrenees, half Border Collie, was black and white. Buddha loved to try to nurse off of his black patches. The dog was quite tolerant and would lay there and accept it, giving us a look very similar to the one you describe your Siggy giving you.

Only one time did the pup stop Buddha from nursing -- when he found that one of the black patches was in a ... shall we say, delicate area. We were all watching TV when we heard the dog start growling, and then yipped a very startled yip.

Too bad none of us had a camera.

7. I had to break The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger of that.
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 01:03 PM by Heidi
He was weaned a little earlier, and came to us a little sick, so at night he slept in the V of my undearm; we had to gently change his sleeping arrangements when he discovered that -- feline or human -- boobs are boobs. It was the biting/nursing behavior, not the kneading (he kneads with claws retracted), that presented a problem. :ouch:
