I'm not in the hospital. Surprisingly good news.
Went to the urologist. He told me that what had my pcp worried was that there was blood in my urine. It was still there today, but he said there was absolutely no bacteria in the urinalysis. He said there was just a small bit of blood, and it wasn't a "component of blood" that caused him to worry. Something to do with WBCs--there weren't any or many or something, I don't know.

He says my bladder wall has probably been slightly damaged by the recurring UTIs--which seem to have been cured. He thinks the pain is spasms, and the blood is still the result of the infections. Says my bladder "just has to do some healing". He put me on a med that will calm the spasms (pyridium), but only gave me two days' worth. He's not sure I should stay on the Cipro, but wanted to talk to my pcp before telling me to stop. Said I should expect a call tomorrow from one of their offices as to what to do with that.

I'm to call my pcp if the pain gets worse.

Then he sent me home, just in time to pick up the beag from the vet.

So, I'm not even sick. Huh. Who knew?

2. I hope you were told about what happens with Pyridium.
Nothing bad, but your urine will turn bright orange. Just a little FYI. I'd double check strongly before you end antibiotics early. Usually, it's recommended you finish the course to prevent resist organisms.

7. This is why they're going to confer. He's concerned that another round of Cipro,

my third in, like, 7 months, might start killing off beneficial bacteria. Since he found no bacteria at all, he can't see the point to it. But wanted to hear my pcp's thinking before contradicting her.

I don't know why I posted two separate responses to your post.

I'm a moran!

5. I have personal experience with pyridium.
It's kind of funny. I had one of those pesky UTIs, got a prescription for that stuff, and my husband took one of the pills, apparently mistaking it for his allergy medication. So he's using the bathroom, and suddenly I hear him yell, "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU PUT IN MY FOOD?!!?" He wasn't accusing me of poisoning him; he just knew I was inclined toward practical jokes. Like the time he made a batch of tapioca pudding and I put blue food coloring in it. But he thought the pyridium thing was funny, once he realized what had happened.

It's a really BRIGHT shade of orange. The toilet sort of glows.

16. Try serving him several bowls of borscht for dinner
Some time, and see how he reacts several hours later! I love borscht (Russian beet soup), but the last time I made it I'd forgotten what beets do to the color of one's urine, and thought I was having some sort of urinary hemorrhage.

They only gave me one pill so the effect disappeared about 8 hours later.

9. Great news!
And pyridium is a wonder drug -- if you've ever had that awful, urgent, going to pee my pants feeling from bad bladder infections, pyridium stops that urgency in its tracks almost immediately.

I think there is an OTC version of it now, too. Too many women bitched about having to get into see a dr. in order to quit wetting their pants. Why not be able to just run into the drug store and get it?

Anyway, I digress. Hooray! At home with the beagle and the cats, not in the hospital. :woohoo:

15. Yup - the over-the-counter stuff is called "Azo-Standard"
It's a wonder drug. I use it when I know I'm getting a UTI, but my doc can't work me in for a few hours. It relieves that awful "having to pee every two minutes and then peeing nitric acid" feeling.

It'll not only turn your urine bright orange, but it'll stain everything your pee touches. Chlorox will get the stains out of your toilet bowl, and I recommend wearing underwear you're not too fond of. Save the "Victoria's Secret" stuff for a better occasion and wear the ratty old Granny Panties it won't pain you to toss.
