Best Star Trek theme music?
From the movies and TV?

My vote goes to DS9.

The worst was the song for "Enterprise."

As cunningly recycled from The Motion Picture. Jerry Goldsmith FTW!

6. Strangely
I find the song for Enterprise to be quite attractive. They did a faster paced version of the Watson song in third season which is actually nicer. OTOH, the one I play in the back of my mind is the ST:TNG theme. Truth be told, one ST piece I adore which is fairly obscure is the flute piece Picard performed in "The Inner Light." I finally found a copy of it with full orchestration, and it's very evocative.

10. But completely bollixed up by that wretched singing.
I think that Scott Bakula should have sung the song himself (whether or not he can sing well), backed only by an acoustic guitar. That would have been in the spirit of the show.

19. He should be able to sing well
He's been on Broadway and earned a Tony nomination for a musical role.

More, courtesy of IMDB:

Scott Bakula came from a musical family. In the fourth grade, he started a rock band and wrote songs for them. Later, he sang with the St. Louis Symphony. He studied Law at the University of Kansas. In 1976, he was first hired professionally in the role of Sam in "Shenandoah" and went to New York. After several small roles on TV, he made "Quantum Leap" (1989).

He won a Golden Globe in 1992 for Best Performance by an Actor in a TV series - Drama for "Quantum Leap" (1989) and was nominated for a Tony award in 1988. Today, he lives in Los Angeles and has a farm in upstate New York.

The song "Somewhere in the Night," which appeared in an episode of "Quantum Leap" (1989), was sung by Bakula and can be found in a CD single format.

His 1988 Tony nomination was as Best Actor (Musical) for "Romance/Romance," written by Barry Harman. The winner in that category that year was Michael Crawford for "Phantom of the Opera," Scott was not the producers' first choice for the role but was chosen after Armand Assante turned it down. When Scott left "Romance/Romance" to do "Quantum Leap" (1989), he was replaced by Barry Williams for the remainder of the show's Broadway run.

11. Goldsmith's theme for "ST: Voyager"...
...is by far my favorite, and I think it's the best. Other "ST" music is memorable, because I've heard it so much and it's always well done, but "Voyager"'s theme is the only "ST" music I'll regularly listen to and enjoy. I even bought the CD!

That said, the incidental music from the original series can be really kinetic and evocative-- and sometimes amusing as hell! It's a bit dated, perhaps. Love the way you always get a wee taste o' the Celtic during any of Scotty's comic moments.

14. Trek II - Wrath of Khan was the best.
Deep Sleep 9, and Voyager tie for being the worst. Were those trumpets or did somebody sit on a frog?

Enterprise's wanted to feel epic, but instead felt out of place for TREK lore. Especially being a prequel and all...
