8. Spotted salamander, Ambystoma maculatum

They migrate in VAST numbers to breeding ponds just a few nights a year, when the first warm rains come in the spring. Hence they are really vulnerable to being run over in large numbers. :(

i used to catch salamanders all the time when I was a kid, I had different salamanders almost constantly throughout the summers. they ROCK.

I love them all... obviously... but these are the ones i'm working with for my dissertation. Marbled salamanders, Ambystoma opacum. :D

that's a cool looking salamander. I love what I do in state politics, but sometimes I kick myself for not getting into biology as a major. I'd love to spend my time working on nothing but amphibians and reptiles.
