Dogs and vaccine reactions
Does anyone here have a dog who has had a bad reaction to a vaccine? I think this is happening to my dog.

We are going to get her to the vet as soon as possible today.

1. my cat had a bad reaction to a rabies vaccine

I took him back to the vet (had only been home less than an hour) and the vet gave him some kind of antidote shot and observed him for a few hours and sent him home. It was the only and only time he's ever had a reaction to any shot in a decade. (He meowed in a pitiful manner, had a bit of foam in his mouth, was stumbling around) Probably just a bad batch. I would not wait if your dog is in real distress and there's an emergency clinic around. When did the dog get this shot? I think these reactions occur pretty quickly.

2. Yes, this just happened to my dog...
perfectly healthy 4 year old dog had a terrible reaction. Required a blood transfusion and a hospital stay. Then he had a reaction to some medicine they gave him and had to be re-hospitalized.

As for symptoms, he had been lethargic but he sleeps a lot anyway so we didn't notice too much. But then he stopped wanting food or treats. His head felt warm like he had a fever. I took him to the vet and within the hour they were sending us to the animal hospital.

He's fine now. PM me if you want to talk.

4. Thank you for the site.
I just took her back to the vet. My husband had her there this morning. He did not do an adequate job of explaining why he brought her in. She was given an anti-inflammatory injection and some antibiotics.

I took her back for blood work and x-rays. As I understand it, she should have been given an antihistamine. Also, I asked the vet to call the drug company and inquire about less common reactions.

I am not upset with the vet. I am upset with the stupid drug company, who is probably covering up for themselves. I have a hunch there are other complaints with this vaccine. I am upset with my husband too. He did not communicate the changes in my dog's behavior very well. He did not tell them her symptoms. They thought her lameness was due to something else entirely.

After reading the information at your link, my dog will not be getting this vaccine again. Of course her problems could be unrelated to the vaccine. Anything is possible. But she was fine before the shot.

5. They MIGHT be unrelated..but when you look into all the stories, they cannot ALL

be merely coincidences.
My German Shepherd is 10 1/2 years old. He had the usual vaccinations when he was about 1 year old, and only the rabies shot was repeated when he was 5 years old---only because it is legal requirement. I will never ever give him another vaccination of any sort now that he is a senior citizen.

PS. He has been to the vet only to be neutered, and for that shot at 5 years old. Knock wood a million times.....

6. Yes, my Yorkie had a seizure after vaccinations.
I think it was too many sera in one day for a 7 lb. dog.
