We just set up a tent in the back yard.
ShineGirl is LOVING her new "fort" and will probably sleep out in it tonite. She's got a comfy air mattress, her sleeping bag, a comforter and several of her "friends" (a.k.a., stuffed animals) already out there.

In the meantime, MrShine and ShineBoy return this afternoon from a whole week of camping in the Sierras with a bunch of other men, so they'll be tired of the tent scene and ready for some modern living.

It'll be good to have the family back together again, but I must say, having the boys gone this past week has really made the home seem more peaceful.

:hi:

1. That brings me back...
My friends and I would always camp out in the back yard when we were kids. :)

3. My dear Shine!
That sounds wonderful!

Do you think your son will camp out with your daughter, or has he had enough of outdoor living?

Or would he not ever be caught dead camping with his little sister?:eyes:

I am relaxing here at home, and going over the last week's adventures in my mind...

It was a wonderful time, getting to see old and new friends...

I am so very lucky to have so many dear friends!

6. There's NO way he'd be interested in camping w/ his little sister!

I'm so glad you had a fun trip back east. I take it you went solo, right? Good for you.

Wow, you've really met a lot of DU'ers by now, huh? Cool!

4. Sweet!
We use to do that when I was a kid. Actually I did that last summer with my dog, haha. Not in a tent but on the back deck. I should do it with my new dog before it gets too cold; she'd love that.

5. I remember doing that as a kid.
And sometimes would sneak back in pretty early (mom left the door open, lol.)

Good times.

7. Hi friend. Long time.
We all camped out, cooked out, hiked, everything when the kids were growing up. I think it's the reason we all still do.Sometimes we meet at the coast, (like last weekend)for a birthday party, or the mountains for the 4th of July.My daughter likes to picnic on her birthday at Duke University gardens for her birthday.
You go girl!:toast: :hi:

10. Hi there!!
Great to see you! :pals:

Yes, we love camping as a family. I'm more into the car camping thing, personally. I like to be comfy and "nest".

We always camp over Labor Day weekend down in Big Sur at Pfieffer with three other families. That's a fun tradition we've been doing for about 7 yrs running now. Good times.

:hi:

8. Having been in both situations .....
I can recommend BOTH ....

A week in the Sierras ..... Done that three times: Once with Boy Scouts on a 'Fifty Miler' hike, which was a grueling high country backpacking trip from above Camp Nelson, to May Lakes, Summit Lake, Some old Cabin, Soda Springs Creek, and eventually: Little Kern .... One of my favorite memories ....

The other two was just hanging out at Yosemite, enjoying both the latest psychotropics and the amazing vistas and grottos in Yosemite Valley and beyond ...

Camped many times in the back yard ... a great way to shakeout new equipment and camp methods ....

I envy both of them ....

9. The boys came back from the Sierras with some "very disturbing news"
the ranger told them that Nat'l Geographic is set to do a story in the next couple o' months on the place where they always go, year after year....something along the lines of "The Undiscovered Jewels of the Sierras"

They're bummed cuz it means it'll get more crowded there. It's in the Yosemite region.

Sounds like you've had some good camping times. :hi:
