Just curious
A response made to me in another thread has me wondering. How many people here are registered
as Democrats and how many are registered as Independent? To me, registering for one affiliation
is too confining and limits ones options. As an Independent, you can vote for whomever you choose.
Then there's the unscrupulous side to it. A person can sabotage the other sides chances.

Thoughts on this?

1. In Wisconsin, we're not required to register
In the primary, you just vote for candidates all from one party. That better be right or I've been wasting my primary votes. In Ohio for my first vote, I registered Democrat and voted for Bill Clinton. You cannot vote for primary candidates in Ohio unless you declare a party. My dad switched from Republican to Democrat to vote for my mom when she ran as a Democrat for county commissioner.

2. In NY you have to register a party affiliation to vote in primaries
which, to me, it is more important to vote down really bad repubs than for good dems.

I know it sounds nutty, and it means that I get practically no help from my Demo senators and rep because of it, but I am a registered Republican.

It also allows me to get the mailings, phone calls and emails that others don't get, so I can pass them on.

3. Same in Ohio
but the county I live in there are no elected Democrats, from dog catcher to city governments to county government not a single Democrat. I thought about registering as Repug but just can't bring my self to do it. For primary voting there is usually no Democrats in opposition to the other side so the Primary is where the repug is selected (officially) and elected to office (unofficially). A very sad state of affairs here in SW Ohio (Warren County).
