Songs that Make You Bawl Like a Baby
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 01:43 PM by JCMach1
Here is mine

Live- Lightning Crashes

Shit, hate to do that. For me, it was a sick newborn and a grandmother who died that triggered it for me. Heard this song on the radio on the way back to the hospital and almost crashed the car.

Can't hear it without breaking down for a good 5-10min at least... PTSD I guess. Dunno. No other song does that... not even a favorite band or anything. Other make me sad even but this one kicks me in the guts.

What songs send you for the kleenex?

4. Candle in the Window
Its a an old Christmas song by Alabama about being away from home on Christmas. When I joined the Navy my Mom put an electric Christmas Candle in my bedroom window so "you can find your way home." That candle has been in my bedroom window for 36 years. Mom and Dad are gone and I seldom listen to that song. It is a great one though.

She's got such a beautiful soul.

3. John Lennon's "Woman"...
...because he MEANT every fucking WORD of it, and some fucking pasty-faced worthless fat-assed son of a bitch loser shot him down in the street by the time it hit the airwaves.

The late Steve Marriott wrote a song called "Teenage Anxiety" about Lennon's death when he was in the midst of the Humble Pie reformation. The lyrics are "They shot my hero in the street, and while I sing, the world still weeps."

10. I have several--
"The Last Time I Saw Her Face"--there was a thread about that song the other day. It reminds me of my cousin and my best friend from grad school, both of whom died way, way too young.

"Rain on the Scarecrow" by John Mellencamp--my family were all farmers, and it breaks my heart to think of all those families who have lost their farms.

There's a song by Ann Hampton Callaway on the "Sibling Revelry" album she did with her sister, Liz, called "My Buddy/Old Friend" that absolutely tears me up. It's about a male/female friendship. Actually that entire album makes me bawl like a baby, I can't listen to it very often. Reminds me, again, of my best friend from grad school.

The Williams Brothers had a tune years ago called "Can't Cry Hard Enough." The title says it all.

I have others, but I can't think of any more right now.

Not that I was like that at 17 - I had fun.

But it came out when I was at a particularly low point in my social life.

It still makes me sad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jxz2wQX3EvA

Another day is at end
Mama says she's tired again
No one can even begin to tell her
I hardly know what to say
But maybe it's better that way
Is papa were here?

I'm sure he'd tell her
Shannon is gone
I hope she's drifting out to sea
She always loved to swim away
Maybe she'll find an island
With a shady tree
Just like the one in our backyard
Mama tried hard to pretend
things would get better again
Somehow she's keeping
It all inside her
But finally the tears fill our eyes
And I know that somewhere tonight
She knows how much we really miss her

22. She Thinks His Name Was John - Reba McEntire
I'm no country music fan but I saw her sing this on an old Phil Donahue show. It made me cry like a baby....I guess because my brother was very ill with AIDS at the time.

24. This one's kind of hoaky.
I was 10 or 11 when my mom told me this song wasn't about a guy trying to get back with his girlfriend, but instead it was about a grown man who missed his father who had passed away.

To this day it kills me every time I hear it.

30. Seasons in the Sun, believe it or not, but there's a reason for it.
When I was ten my best friend and I used to sing that song, and a bunch of others. You guessed it, he died. The last time I saw him was at a motel his father ran--The Flamingo Motel, on the beach in Biloxi. We played on the beach, found a dead sea turtle, swam in the swimming pool, and sang that song mindlessly, neither of us even knowing what it was about.

He wanted me to stay an extra day at the motel, but I was homesick, and left. A few weeks or months later, he was hit be a car, in Kiln, Mississippi, home of Brett Favre.

I'm 43, haven't listened to that song in years. I just found it on youtube to post it. Made it through about half a verse, had to turn it off. So I'm not posting it. It doesn't even make me think of him, exactly, it just feels so sad.
