How long is a reasonable time to expect delivery of an item you purchase online?
I ordered an item through a company's website well over a month ago and still have not received the item. It's not a big corporation, they use Paypal, but they aren't exactly small either. They charged my credit card on July 14 and I ordered the item about a week before that. I usually give somebody around two weeks, then I start sending emails. I sent this company an email two weeks after my credit card was charged. No response. Then I called their 1-800 number. The 1-800 number has the company's name in the number like "1-800-SUCK-ASS". The guy I talked to was kind of spacey, for one, he just kind of blew me off saying that the item will be sent 4 to 6 weeks from from THAT moment. Wait a fucking second, I've already been waiting 3 weeks. The guy also gave me the option of canceling my order if I thought this would be too long. Then he went into a sob story about somebody in his family being ill. After I hung up with him, I realized he didn't even get my name. What the fuck is that all about?

Another thing, I got the impression that the 1-800 number was being used as their personnel phone line as he did not mention the company's name when he answered the phone, also the answering machine did not have the company's name on it either, revealed in a subsequent phone call. That makes me feel like this company is being run half assed. It is a one of kind item, that would be really hard to find elsewhere, so I kind of have to suck it up if I want it. Seriously, why can't people be professional in their business dealings? The item is a comic book, why the hell can't they just grab it put it an envelope, put my address on it and mail it? Would take about an hour to do that.

2. I would keep calling that 800 number until somebody
at that place told me what the hell was going on. Because it sounds to me like they simply took your money and had no intention of sending you the comic book.

3. I'm going through the same thing... sort of
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 09:54 AM by Symarip
I always am torn about taking action because I want to give people the benefit of the doubt. Plus, if I buy something online, I usually really (times a thousand) want it. Recently, I 'won' a record on ebay. I charged my credit card instantly after the auction had ended.

Three weeks later, no record.

Sounds to me, if you actually talked to this person and you still got blown off a bit, it's probably worth taking your business elsewhere.

(Edited to add: Jump Up Records, you assholes, I want my Aggrolites record... NOW!)

4. if it's a comic book, it's probably not in stock
could be they are getting it from someplace else, or THOUGHT they had it, but are trying to track one down for you.

Anyone with a bank account can accept PayPal, so that's no litmus test, and about anyone with a few extra bucks can get a toll-free number, so that's no guarantee this isn't something some hobbyist is doing after hours. Call back, ask to speak to a supervisor, and if one's not available, cancel the order and have them process the refund to your card while you're on the line. Or if you want to cause them problems, call your credit card company and report it, then they'll charge back the seller and probably hit them with a fee.

5. It's the distributors website. From their online shop.
It's this comic right here, from Keenspot. I want it because the comic has a political theme.

10. i give it a month but it NEVER takes that long
even "book rate" items, which i assume the comic book is, are delivered in a few days, the modern postal service is an amazing thing, and i do order books semi frequently, sometimes i'm amazed at how fast they are delivered, there is simply nothing to it these days

from your description i don't believe this seller has the item nor do they intend to deliver the item, it has been a month, time to file a chargeback or complaint with paypal and see if you can get some of your money back
