I cried like a baby last night.
I was sitting on the couch with JackMN, who was rather crabby. He started digging around in his mouth and whimpering, and I thought he was going to throw up. All of a sudden I hear something rattling against his teeth. I asked him what he had in his mouth, and tried to get him to let me look. He got really upset and I saw something fall out of his mouth onto the floor. I looked on the carpet, and there was a tooth! I freaked out until I thought about it for a minute and remembered that he IS 5 1/2.
It's so easy for me to forget that he's as old as he is, because he doesn't look or seem it.

After he calmed down I went in his room to pick up some toys, and I burst out crying when it occurred to me that I don't, and won't, have any more little ones with "baby smiles". Then I started crying again when I realized he wouldn't even understand the tooth fairy thing. I still left his tooth for the tooth fairy and gave him some money. I couldn't skip doing it. It just didn't seem right.

1. Oh Lara - Little JackMN
had a major milestone last night, no wonder you were moved to tears.

:pals:

They grow up really fast sometimes, and not fast enough other times.

2. You're the best!
No kidding. You so often touch my heart. What a funny, sensitive and loving Mom you are. Doing the tooth
fairy thing was the absolutely right thing to do- as you instinctively knew. Jack's a lucky little fellow.

5. Jack understands more than you know Lara,
Mostly he understands his mother's love. I bet he loved finding some money under his pillow too! How lucky you both are to have each other!

7. He wouldn't actually let me put the tooth under his pillow.

He was angry and scared of the tooth.

I had to leave it on his shelf in an envelope.

I gave him an envelope from the tooth fairy that was full of quarters. He likes quarters; he carries them around in his hands until he loses them.

:D

So many precious moments... so many treasures that we sometimes end up taking them for granted. It's so wonderful that you notice and care so deeply... thanks for sharing so much, Lara.
