2. Your lists...............
just kill me. It's like looking at my life in slow motion or something. I can relate an event or an emotion to just about every one of them. A true "trip" down memory lane........I've forgotten that many of those songs existed. Thanks, now if you could just create CD's with all of them I'd pay some big bucks.

10. Funny you should mention that....

<<Thanks, now if you could just create CD's with all of them I'd pay some big bucks.>>

I already have--four CDs per year, and five when I extend my lists to 120 songs. Suffice it to say, they make for awesome car listening!

3. You left out this one?
SATISFACTION by the Rolling Stones was one of my most memorable songs from the summer of '65. Way back then, my friends and I thought the lyrics were shocking! "I can't get no...da da da"

9. Of course I included "Satisfaction"!
It's under "I," not "S," for "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction."

Yeah, no matter how many times I hear that one, I nevr, ever get tired of it! I still love that part about the cigarettes in Verse 2.

4. That's cool, but I think "Get Off Of My Cloud" came out in '66.
Unless you're a Brit.

12. Nope! "Get Off My Cloud" is definitely from 1965
It hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending October 9, 1965.

You can trust me on these matters. When it comes to "oldies" music, I know my shit! ;-)

7. I'M A MAN
Great list! But isn't "I'M A MAN" by the Spencer Davis Group? Or am I thinking about another song?

13. Re: "I'm A Man"

The Yardbirds tune and the Spencer Davis record are two different songs that just happen to share a title. Both are great, though!

???

Sorry to see The Lion Sleeps Tonight didn't make it, but damn, there was a LOT of good music back then. Good list.

14. "Lion Sleeps Tonight" came out in '61, not '65

And it's on my 1961 list. Great, great record!

19. That's odd, I'd always believed Lion Sleeps was #1 the week I was born
August 5, 1965. I guess I'm mistaken. But yes, great, great song! The original was a folk song from Africa that had been around for ages.

15. Re: Land of a Thousand Dances

By the time Pickett recorded "Land of 1000 Dances," two other versions had already charted: Chris Kenner's (1963) and Cannibal & The Headhunters. And needless to say, quite a few versions followed Pickett's!

17. Best I can tell you is...

...that 100 (or in this case, 120) is a finite number. When you're trying to narrow down your musical tastes to their barest essence, you're inevitably going to leave out some worthwhile recordings. Boy, did I learn that the hard way while making these lists!

Just to clarify: by leaving out certain songs, I didn't mean to imply that they weren't any good, only that I didn't like them quite enough to include them in my top 100 of the year.

Keep in mind also, these lists merely reflect the personal tastes of a man who's not even old enough to remember the '60s! (I was born in 1966.) By no means do I intend them as the be-all and end-all of what was and wasn't good in popular music during the years I chronicled. I've merely posted my lists for the lounge's entertainment (and, in some cases, nostalgia).

Peace, out!

I know where you're coming from...I almost listed a few more then the thought struck me that Hey...ya CAN'T list 'em all! Just for the sake of nostalgia, I'm 52 and used to listen to Cousin Bruce Morrow on MusicRadio...77WABC outta New York! I live in Indiana and it used to be that around 8 p.m. or after you could pick that station up as clear as if it was a local station! Ahhhhhhh...the memories! Here's a site you might find interesting http://www.reelradio.com/extras.html

20. And here's a site YOU might find interesting....

http://www.musicradio77.com

It's a fan site dedicated to the history of WABC-AM. A must for anyone who ever listened to that station during the '60s or '70s!
