edited to add: Happy Anniversary. We will have our 26th in March.
say hello to this spot for me:
and here:
This was one of my favorite spots in Yellowstone.
Things you might want to do that you may not know about:
Get up to Bozeman to the Museum at the University.
http://www.bozemancvb.com/museums.php The really cool PBS dinosaur dude is Head of the Department up there and this is his baby. Great Museum. Not far at all from the North Gate of Yellowstone.
Eat dinner at the big fancy restaurant up near the Park Visitor's Center, by Mammoth Hot Springs. Good food, nice place. Not your normal National Park Concessionaire.
The towns around the northeast entrance are sucky but you have to go through them to drive the Beartooth if you want to do that. The gas was more expensive, they were dumpier and the food such as it was...was awful.
Cody Wyoming however is a neat little city, and has a great museum. West Yellowstone is a great little tourist town, good eateries and an IMAX that perpetually runs Lewis and Clark and such.
Gardiner Montana is also a neat little town, we stayed at a B & B one night on our last trip (after 3 nights of cold camping in September it was luxury, I tell you, luxury)
Get to Thermopolis if you can and take a dip in the free hot springs.
http://www.thermopolis.com/Attractions/Hot+Springs+State+Park.htmIf you are driving from Cody to Thermopolis, you go through Meeteetse. I went through there unintentionally (long story) and stopped to eat ..had one of the best hamburgers I ever ate in my entire life. Now when my husband is working in that area, he makes a point to try to hit Meeteetse at least once if he can. It is a cute little town, and I ate in a place that was a cafe on one side and a restored saloon on the other; I can't remember the name of it though.
