In looking up a Freud picture for another thread, I was struck by this image in Google image search. It's Kitty and her baby Annie Freud. Kitty was the first wife of Sigmund Freud's grandson, the painter Lucian Freud.
Kitty, who frequently posed for her husband's portraits
is the daughter of experimental modernist architect Sir Jacob Epstein and Lady Kathleen Garman, a celebrated bohemian couple on the British art scene in the 1920s and 1930s. Lady Kathleen, also called Kitty, was shot in 1923 by Epstein's first wife, who fell and died of a fractured skull 26 years later, allowing the longtime lovers to become husband and wife five years after that. Their daughter Kitty Epstein was 28 years old when her parents wed (1954).
Here's the lovely folks:
Here's a more recent painting of Kitty Epstein Freud by Andrew Tift; she's apparently still living in England. This portrait won an award last year for portraiture.
Now my life seems really boring.
