I think I found an inexpensive apartment that will let me have both my dogs!!
AND it's within walking distance of the kids' school and their dad's house. The only drawback is it is just a couple blocks from a college campus and I'm worried about rowdy college kids but if I can pass the credit check I could be moving soon!
