http://www.nps.gov/history/nr/research/index.htmThe National Register of Historic Places research guide and database. It gives a really cool perspective on local history and really gets into the nooks and crannies of our shared past. What I like is that it catalogs a lot of folk art and history that I otherwise would have never known about. I've also found out about places that I would pass everyday that had historical significance that I didn't know about. For instance this is a multiple listing, Sculpture by Dionicio Rodriguez in Texas MPS, it catalogs this sculptors work, mostly in San Antonio. He did, what is known as 'Faux-Bois' sculptures, which means "fake wood". His work is incredible. But I never would have known about this guy if I didn't scan the NRHP website from time to time.
