Do you take vitamin supplements?
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 09:34 PM by pokerfan
I try to eat a balanced diet but I figure a daily multivitamin fills any deficiencies.

3. Indeed I do. I think it's
a good idea to take a multi-vitamin, even if eating healthy. Just an added bonus!

6. No. Yes. Yes, No. Yes. No.

Never did before I got married and became a yanqui imperialist somewhere in my 20s. My wife was (still is) a big believer in vitamins, herbs, and complementary medicine. Since then, I've been on for long periods of time and off for as long. Right now I'm in a 'Yes' phase, taking a multivitamin and fish oils (Trader Joe's Omega 3). I figure it can't hurt and, really, should have been more diligent with at least the multivitamin during periods in the last four years in which I ate more poorly than usual.

I also recently went back to taking Vitamin C and garlic tablets and am temporarily doubling up on the C and multivitamin since trying to, and failing to, prevent myself catching the latest cold virus that was daily coughed into my face by the hygiene-challenged. I was mixing a greens powder with juice for much of the past year but I haven't had it since moving out of my place in May.

8. Medically required to - 2 Centrums a Day plus Dry D and Calcium
I don't absorb everything I eat because of Duodenal Switch weight loss surgery so I have to take vitamins to make up for it. A small trade off for the 130 lbs. I lost!!

9. YES. I have to . I take
about 60 pills a day divided into 4 doses. It's not as bad as it sounds. I have no problem swallowing 15 pills at once, they are very small.

I also get B12 shots and I'm starting Iron Infusions.

11. I take vitamin D supplements and monitor with periodic blood tests....
A couple of years ago a blood test revealed EXTREMELY low vitamin D, so I supplement it and have it checked periodically.

20. When I was in my early 20s
I was having lunch with a bunch of pharmicists. They were talking about how food often wasn't as nutrional as it should be, because of the farming techniques. They talked about the need for suppliments. I started taking them after that. I know one thing that happened to me as a result, my hair started growing faster. I suddenly needed hair cuts 2 weeks quicker than before I started taking them.

21. I have them, but I never remember.
A month's supply will last me over a year. Which is probably okay, since I eat pretty well and probably don't need anything anyhow.

24. Yes, especially after I read a
Scientific American (or possibly Discover) article about treating depression with doses of minerals and B vitamins.

I notice the difference mostly when I DON'T take them.

Lately, I've added Vitamin D on the advice of my brother the doctor, who says that most people living in northern latitudes have subclinical deficiencies.

29. yeah, vitamin D is not absorbed well in general
and given the fact that there's a lot of new research into the benefits of D (immune health, cancer prevention, etc.) I recently upped my dose to 4000IU per day.

30. Yes, indeedy. A whole food multi,magnesium,Omega 3, Homo-
cysteine formula(the B vits) and then later on in the day I will take Vit C or maybe a Wellness tablet.

I must add that unless you are taking a whole food supplement, you are not getting what you need. I suspect the One a day mainstream types are too synthesized to be effective.
