I just had a crazy notion

Maybe I should spend as much time campaigning for Democrats as I do posting on this site.

My local Dem party is canvassing tomorrow.

Has anyone ever done this?

What should I expect?

What do I need to know?

1. When someone answers the door ...

don't yell at them about the over-fertilized lawn or the Hummer in the driveway.

don't tell them to register "Right Fucking Now!!!11!!"

don't call them "rethugs" if they don't know what you're talking about.

If you're given a script, follow it (mostly). If the script doesn't mention that McCain called Cindy a c**t, don't add it. Or the five US aircraft he destroyed.

Wear a hat and drink plenty of water. Nobody wants you passing out on their over-fertilized lawn, or on the driveway blocking the Hummer.

2. In real life I'm not much of a yeller

And if I'm outside I usually have a hat on, whether I need it or not

3. I feel uncomfortable

canvassing, so I do the phoning. Especially on election day/evening. Just remind people to go out and vote. Ask anyone if they need a ride. Stuff like that.

Good luck on your canvassing. Remember, there are some not so kind people out there. Don't take it personal.
