11. Tonight, we'll be talking about thbe development of tax codes and their enforcement though history.
We'll start with post-colonial American tax codes. As we all know, the Americans rebelled against British rule, with the mantra "No taxation without representation!" Once they represented themselves, it was time to devise a new set of tax codes to help their new country grow and prosper on its own.

Wait! Where are you going? I haven't even started talking about tariffs yet!

14. One issue is that we are in a situation where we essentially have taxation without
representation because of the Supreme Court's ruling that corporations have rights like individuals, only they have more money, aka they have more rights. As corporations form Pac's, and tax exempt status political organizations, as well as having straight up donations to candidates, they can afford more and are more likely to "invest" in a candidate or two, and then what happens to our representation? I think it went out the window with the promise of whatever to the elected official.

well basically we are screwed :P

12. Ok, you asked for it...
To quote:

"To maximize satisfaction given a budget constraint, the consumer will want to be on the highest attainable indifference curve. In Figure 2-9, the indifference curve U1 is not the best possible, while indifference curve U3 is unattainable. Rejecting such alternatives, the consumer will find that she maximizes utility at a point of tangency, shown as Point A in the figure. At this point, the rate at which the consumer is willing to trade good A for good B, the slope of the indifference curve equals the rate at which the consumer is able to trade the two goods at market prices- the slope of the budget constraint."

:D Welcome to my world.

13. but what about other variables
and how they enter into the equation

Just because a consumer is willing to trade good A for good B, other factors may intervene and create a different response, such as not trading the items due to fears of job loss, market failure, commitment to a loan, etc.

yawn...
