We left our house, and I thought I should take a pic of the street...

WE walked down a few blocks to the Blair Arcade, housing Ninas Coffee shop, Garrison Keillors Book Store, Common Good Books, and Congresswoman Betty McCollums congressional offices.

right behind me was Betty McCollums Office...

Walking down a bit more we came across the park in our hood...

Continuing down our way we came to the Cathedral that gives the Cathedral Hill hood it's name... These pictures do NOT convey the true scale of this building, it is MASSIVE.

Look at the people in the bottom of the pic for an idea of scale

the back of it

inside the dome...

the only inside shot that turned out even a bit ok...

the front of the building

some detail

once again, some people for scale...

From there we could see the State Capitol Building

Also from the front steps of the Cathedral we could see the MN History Museum where John Stewart and the Daily Show will be during the RNC...

Then I had a flip flop blowout and had to go barefoot...you can see my wonderful flip flop strap tan lines... We have surprisingly clean sidewalks around here, I did not step on a single rock...

A non zoomed shot of the State Capital from the steps of the Cathedral

And here you can see the Xcel Energy Center, host site of the RNC in about a month from now...

For the entire walk there were kids playing, laughing and running around, the smells of BBQs, and people having a good time everywhere. Not only is it a BEAUTIFUL night here, it seems that EVERY one was having a good time. really nice walk

Plus, I got to pet an adorable dog while the Fiancee and I were sitting outside at Ninas having some Stewarts Root Beer.

26. Hi Jasonc
These photos make me miss Minnesota! I used to love going to the History Center as a wee girl. I suggested that they change one of their exhibits a little bit (it was an exhibit about deafness) a while back. I'm visiting MN in a couple of weeks to be with my family and possibly do a bit of "touristy" stuff with my husband. I might just drag him to the History Center!

I recognise a lot of the things you've posted. When I was a wee girl, I used to shop at the Odegard Book shop (no longer there!) and look at the Mexican stuff across there. At Odegard you could see what celebrities were there as they signed the wall above the doorway. It doesn't look like they took the wall down but they've painted over it! :-( That was Grand Avenue's greatest loss, the loss of Odegard Books.

It's always a must whenever we stop in St Paul, we always stop over at Cafe Latte for a meal!

Sure I now live in the United Kingdom but Minnesota will always have a place in my heart.

29. Beautiful area - but I do have one problem
When you refer to your fiancee as "the fiancee". It reminds me of the old guys you used to see who referred to their wives as "the wife"
It would be nicer if you said, "my fiancee, (insert name or first inital here), and I".

Sorry to by picky, it's just a pet peeve of mine :hi:

I am hoping the Twins go far this year, how far depends on whether or not they can step up their game when playing a really good opponent.

41. People around here hate Crocs but, I have a pair and they
are very comfortable and actually give good support.
They tend to "grab" the floor and you will trip over yourself if you get in a hurry.
I have a pair of Danskos which are also very comfortable and have an "energizing' effect on the legs.
I know Nikes are not PC around here but, I own 2 pair, one pair is the Nike Shocks, which are also very comfortable and give good support.
I rotate these with a pair of Avias and a pair of Asics (tennis shoes/sneakers).
Also, would recommend Birkenstocks.
I have seen a lot of people wearing the hugely UGLY Z-Coil. Apparently, they are the THING if you have heel spurs. Also, watch for shin splints.
I think people in this field are slightly NUTS about 2 things:
1. shoes
2. ink pens

Very blue, we have as our congress critters, Betty McCollum D-MN for MN 4th District (St Paul) and Congressman Keith Ellison D-MN for Minnesotas 5th District (Minneapolis) and who also happens to be teh first MUSLIM elected to congress and Keith voted yes on Teh Koochs impeachment bill last week or so.

Why they are having the RNC here is up to speculation, some (me included) seem to think it is because Gramps McSame is going to pick our governor as his veep. Which I think is Hilarious, Tim Pawlenty has done with MN what Bush has done for America...Run it into the ground, collapsing bridges included...
