Legendary Movies or Pure Crap?
This seems to be another 'Blockbuster Summer', as I keep hearing on the radio and reading on the interwebs. Some blockbusters really do live up to their hype and others are just an excuse for Disney or Warner Bros. to steal your hard earned cash.

So... What huge movies lived up to the hype for you? And which ones were a complete waste of time?

Personally, I'll always look fondly on my cinematic experiences to the original Star Wars trilogy even though cinematically, they're not as superior as I thought they were when I was 5 years old. I did like Jaws quite a bit and even now if I see it on I can't tear myself away from the television. Oh, and I almost refused to see Dark Knight but I'm glad I renegged. I think it will stand up well just as the orginal Batman did from 1989.

On the other hand, Titanic is the biggest turd this side of shitsville. Seriously, just horrible. I hated when my coworkers or friends at the time would yap on about it like it fucking broke the space/time continuum and brought back Marilyn Monroe and James Dean to personally service everyone in the movie theater. It was transparent, boring, unintelligent, and another example of CGI effects trumping the story. Worst of all, it played peoples emotions with tired re-hashes of love stories past.

I should note, I refuse to see Mamma Mia, the other current blockbuster. I just think it looks as bad as it probably is and a quick google search for reviews have verified these fears. If I want to see a bad movie, I'll download a B-movie or better yet, Mystery Science Theater 3000.

1. The last movie I saw that I thought was worth the hype
"I Am Legend."

(And I might not think that if I didn't have nightmares afterward. :scared: )

2. Of the current crop of blockbusters, Wanted was horrible.
My husband and I looked at each other afterwards, like, "Seriously?" How Morgan Freeman ever got himself mixed up in that, I'll never understand...

3. I've debated seeing it
Mainly because I'd like to hear Danny Elfman sing again. But I have yet to and enough people have swayed me into 'wait for DVD' mode.

5. It's awful, and I LOVE mindless action movies.
Everyone seems to be sleepwalking through the movie, except James McAvoy, who is clearly saying, "I'm not half as hot as the rest of these people, so I need to work twice as hard." Angelina Jolie looks so terrifyingly skinny that she's not even hot anymore (and I normally would TOTALLY sleep with Angelina Jolie - you know, if I wasn't married, and she weren't married, and she was into girls...ahem) and she doesn't "act" so much as "wander through" scenes.

4. I don't know if I'd say any were "complete wastes of time"
Indiana Jones 4 was disappointing because I thought they tried to squeeze 3 movies of material into one, and missed on all three... however, it was still nice to see Indy & Marion on the screen again.

Iron Man was better than I thought it would be, as I was never a huge fan of the IM comic book, so my expectations weren't sky high despite an excellent trailer with Robert Downey Jr.

Spidey 3 was a disappointment last summer, but it was still Spider-Man. It suffered from the Indy problem - trying to pack 3 movies into one and not succeeding with any of them.

8. When I heard about the swinging vine scene
I knew I had better things to do than go to the movie theater.

6. Wall-e and Dark Knight both easily lived up to the hype.
See both if you haven't already.

7. Iron Man, The Dark Knight, WALL-E all lived up to the hype IMHO...
Even though the Dark Knight was beyond hyped, I think it even surpassed the hype. I can't say enough good things about that movie.
