3. someone in my family found
my computer still logged on this weekend, and had a little fun pretending to be me in a number of places

some of the people who know me noticed and thought I was smoking crack or something

others who did not know me, thought they were, ahem... chatting with me

now I don't know what to do... either on the cyber side, or the family side.

4. I got it.
Does sound like a bit of a sticky situation. People on here, unless they are jerks, will probably forget about it in short order.

:hi:

9. I would speak to Skinner about it.

He's been very forgiving and he's the one to solve your dilemma. Just apologize and be forthcoming. :-)

I've often been afraid of this, myself, and my SO did post as me a couple of times, by mistake, wasn't paying attention, but they were innocuous posts. I was more afraid that my cat, who would walk on my keyboard, would post on DU and get me in trouble, LOL. Good luck with this!:hi:

10. Just post links to all your imposter's posts with the subject line:
"That wasn't me." That way it's all on the record and I don't have to go searching for these posts and wondering which WJMS really wrote them.

11. I try not to leave my computer logged in on anything.
There are two benefits to that -- one, I tend to have all the passwords to my favorite places in my head so I can always log on from any computer, anywhere, and two, I don't have to worry so much about other people logging on as me, purposely or accidentally, if they have my computer.

I even have a password on my usual desktop. If someone wants to use my computer they can log on as "guest" but all my stuff is inaccessible to them.

Sorry about your 'bout with identity theft.

It could be worse, somebody could've bought a car with your name and driven it through a shopping mall or something.

If it helps, I think most people on the internet are very understanding when someone who is generally reliable claims "it wasn't me!"

14. Yep. Teenagers. I got those.
It's not my own kids so much, it's some of the hormone-crazed mob they bring in.
