Any other tech-savvy people who can't stand texting?
I love the internet, and all sorts of electronic gadgets, but I fucking hate texting. It is cumbersome and time consuming, and it is like wearing a leash. Also, people who text when they drive tick me off.

1. I hate texting.
Blame it on the mild OCD, I guess.

I must spell every word completely and correctly.

I also need appropriate punctuation.

Texting is teh suck.

2. I think texting shorthand has led to a downfall in the language
I am sure high school and college papers suffer for it.

3. I don't do texting.
I get a number of them, but I rarely return. If you want to talk to me, call. If you want to write to me, e-mail.

I'll take pictures in any format, on any medium though.

5. I agree
I will adopt and embrace technology before many others, then try to show them how to work it. I love how easy it has made life. But recently my sister and mother decided to purchase the "unlimited texting" for us. I refuse to use it, simply because if you can't stop and call me, you shouldn't be talking to me anyway. If you can't send me an email, then you shouldn't be sending me a message.

Texting is the one "invention" I refuse to adapt to.

6. I hate it on regular phones, but mine flips open to reveal a querty keypad
Texts are nice to just share a bit of info or to ask a not-that-urgent question before I forget it. They're also nice for things like sending somebody a phone #, address or something like that they'd otherwise have to write down and keep track of.

I do not like to use text for extended discussions (ie where are we going for dinner) because a regular phone call is faster and less annoying in those cases. Since I have a proper keyboard, I type out whole words, and hate trying to decipher txt msgs tht rd lk ths.

Mostly I use my texting function to send pics though, either straight to the recipient or to upload them to photobucket from my phone.

7. Picture messages are not that bad
There is a woman at my work who will text me when she knows I am in the building, rather than just calling. It is aggravating.

8. My ex-boss would text me from ten feet away.
Even emailing me from that far was annoying, unless it was something where a written record was useful.

Now, push to talk capability on all cell phones would be good. Say what you have to say and be done with it.

16. Not that I'm necessarily tech-savvy...
but sometimes that's the only way I can contact one person. It's not my preferred method of communication, but I can certainly stand it very well.

17. I text...a lot
See, I'm a married, full-time college student with two terminally ill parents. I can't answer my phone in class or run out of class every 5 minutes. Texts are how I communicate when I'm in class/at work all day and can't talk. Sorry.

19. I hate it.
I am tech support, and I refuse to show people how to text on their Blackberries.

And yes, I hate seeing people with a cell phone up to their ear driving. I can always tell who they are by the totally inattentive driving.

20. I hate texting, and I hate IM's
Mostly because they're both hideously inane. Nobody ever texts me to say the Nobel Committee or the Academy has nominated me. Or even to ask me if I'm interested in the matinée of "Hellboy" - folks call, PM or e-mail me for that. No, it's "WASSUP" and "HOW R U DOIN". It's the kind of mindless chit-chat I'm forced to overhear all the time from dolts yelling into their cell phones "Yeah, well I'm here at Starbucks...maybe a latte, or a cappuccino...muffins look good..." For gods' sake, people: it won't kill you to just stand there and think for a change! You won't disappear or get sucked into a singularity if you're not in constant communication with your buddy list.

We've turned into a nation of chattering magpies, constantly piping our little one or two note tunes to establish our territory. It's getting effing tedious. I turn all that crap off.

30. IMs are even worse
Luckily I thwarted that years ago. I do tons of Excel work on the computer with browsers open. Receiving IMs while I was trying to figure out an elongated formula was maddening.

25. Now, push to talk is nice..
Unless you have people who have the volume cranked up in public places, letting everyone in on their conversation.

But, just for a quick, "hey, want to meet for lunch", it is pretty good. It doesn't take as long as texting.

24. I agree, it's an awful way to communicate.
And I hate when I try to call someone, they won't answer the call, but if I then text them they immediately return the text. :wtf: is up with that? If your so busy that you can't answer the phone, how can you possibly be texting?:grr:

27. I would never consider it
My lifetime number of sent texts is zero. I've received a few and deleted them immediately without responding. I don't want anyone to think they can get away that, sending texts in my direction.

A cell phone is bad enough. I hate being on call while mobile. Only family and a handful of close friends get my cell number.

There were so many more permutations in my life before computers and email. It's like that line from the new show, "...We had outside."

29. Nearly everyone I know has a smartphone so we just email each other...
usually the only time I will send a text message is if I'm on a conference call or in a meeting and I get a call that I can't answer. I'll text back "In a meeting, will call later" or "Busy, call me later"

Sometimes my boyfriend will send me cute messages like "I love you baby" or other things which I won't repeat :D
