Du'ers under 30 years old, you'll find this hard to believe, but
it used to be you weren't supposed to use the word pregnant! "Say EXPECTING," our mothers told us.

With my grandmother, it was "having a baby" not "expecting."

30. No, that was "I Love Lucy"
Fortunately, by the time Maude came around, that particular taboo had fallen by the wayside.

I do wonder if we'd be able to have a sympathetic character choose to have an abortion on a sit com these days, though. In many ways, "Maude" was ahead of its time.

31. It seems that people who have abortions on tv today (such as on soap operas)
pay for it with some kind of karmic retribution. There are always negative consequences.

You should never say anything to a woman that even remotely suggests you think she's pregnant unless you can see an actual baby emerging from her at that moment. (Dave Barry)

under loose fitting clothes.

And you would certainly never entertain the thought of exposing it in public!

an EDC (estimated date of confinement.

26. I sometimes say "expecting"... but it can be good -
I can't stand it when people say "WE are pregnant."

No, WE are not pregnant. Only one half of a couple can be pregnant. They ARE both expecting, though - as in, expecting a baby together. I'd much rather hear people say, "We are expecting" than "We are pregnant."

I sincerely hope that day comes within my lifetime.
