*** Official MLB Trade Deadline Thread ***

Nothing yet on the Marlins-Boston-Pittsburgh Blockbuster...

Looks like Ken Griffey Jr. is going to the Chi Sox, really sucks to be Paul Konerko and Jim Thome right now.

2. i don't see why they did that, if other than to replace Konerko
move Swisher to first and bench konerko.

3. At this point...
I'm hoping the Fish-Bucs-Sawks deal goes to hell. It's the deal of receding returns, everytime I hear an update, Pittsburgh is getting more and the Sox and Marlins are giving more.

4. Ibanez to Cubs is rumored.
But I doubt it will happen. Seattle wants Micah Hoffpauir and/or Felix Pie. And the Cubs really don't need another questionable glove in the outfield.

5. Marlins get M's reliever Arthur Rhodes
From ESPN.com
Rhodes, in his 17th season, has a 2.86 ERA in 36 games for the Mariners this season. Left-handed hitters are hitting just .200 against him in 2008.

At least we know the Marlins are serious this season.

11. Losers short term or long term? Whoever gets Manny is a short term winner.
Manny has been the best for a long time now.

9. Manny deal 'close to dead'
Manny deal 'close to dead'

Thursday, July 31, 2008 | Print Entry

Posted by Peter Gammons

A source close to the three-way negotiations involving Manny Ramirez says the deal is close to dead. Florida has reportedly asked Boston for a cash outlay beyond the $7 million to cover Ramirez's contract, in addition to two prospects. That essentially would add up to the Red Sox trading Ramirez, $9 million and two prospects for Jason Bay.

looks like another potential blockbuster killed in the 11th hour.

10. If Boston trades Manny, they'll miss the playoffs
Manny anchors that entire lineup. There's no way Ortiz and Lowell hit the way they have in the past without Manny.

14. It's over.
Manny stays with the Sox through the World Series, I guess.

Yeah, optimistic I know.
