I have a really old (like 10+ years) one and it takes out the air pretty well but it doesn't seal well at all and the bags usually come open. Are the newer ones any good? Do you have one? Do you like it? would you recommend it?

1. We have one of those ten-buck
Reynolds Handi-Vac jobs. It works like a champ, and the valve on the bag where you suck out the air doesn't leak. I'd totally recommend it.

2. I use a FoodSaver and have for about 15 years.
I upgraded to a newer model about 2 years ago, and I'm very happy with it. I use it primarily for sealing up meats, fish and poultry that I buy in bulk at Costco and freeze. With the Mason Jar sealing attachment or one of the canisters they have available, I seal dry goods like cereal for pantry storage, and small fresh fruit like strawberries in the fridge.

It really does a great job of keeping things fresher for significantly longer than other methods. I bought a pound of strawberries about two weeks ago, and used them yesterday in my cereal - just perfect! Keeps things in the freezer beautifully with no freezer burn - you can also write on the bags with a Sharpie so you know exactly when you bought something and what cut/weight it is.

I bought mine from QVC, but I know they are also available at Costco and other places like Bed Bath and Beyond. Well worth the investment; I'd never be without one again, and have bought them as wedding or Christmas gifts for people I'm especially fond of! ;)

3. Yes, Replaced a 7 year old sealer about a year ago
Have one of the FoodSaver ProIII devices. It works like a charm. Stuff I've sealed stays sealed (even leftover Beef Roast I tossed in the freezer two years ago). I have had a lot of trouble with the new cannisters, they crack, but the older ones (gray) hold up well.

4. I use a food saver, but honestly could use a new one.
I love it though.

5. Ha ha, I read that as "vaccuum food sealed contraception" at first.

And I was all like, "vaccuum food contraception," :wtf: is THAT?!

Lol. I better start getting more sleep at night.
