1. Weird how the Denver Post wouldn't release her name...
The Colorado Daily sure did, PLUS it included a picture of her. Then again, The Colorado Daily kind of sucks at almost everything...

2. That was in very poor taste of The Colorado Daily.

21. Indeed it was. Completely in poor taste.
Then again, The Colorado Daily pretty much just an offshoot of the Boulder Daily Camera, and those people are almost all completely inept at anything relating to journalism.

4. it was in very poor taste to publish her name
she is the victim of an alleged sexual assault (and i only write that sentence as a former cops reporter) and names of alleged victims are not published without permission.

6. If only the SPJ could take punitive action...
unfortunately it can't. So poor journalism ethics go unpunished.

8. you're telling me
i'm sure some people would say 'well, he just grabbed her boob,' but that does not diminish what she went through.

11. He violated her boundaries in a crude way and she didn't let him get away with it.
Good for her.

Too many people get away with being jerks to other people, whether they be guys on bikes or Colorado Daily "journalists."

3. Okay, here's my problem with this.
Bear with me...

1. unlawful sexual contact; and

2. child abuse

I easily get the sexual contact one. Okay. Child abuse? Is that for endangerment because of the fact they were on bikes?

If so, okay, that sounds about right.

My problem: why is unlawful sexual contact and child abuse only a one motherfucking thousand dollar bond?

Douchebag needs a cockpunch something serious.

5. Douchebag thought that he could get away with being a douchebag.
But he didn't.

The local judge should let the woman cockpunch him as his punishment. On a public street, preferably.

7. both are misdemeanors
which is likely why the bond is so low. the judge who set the bond also likely looked at prior criminal history, establishment within the community, etc when setting the bond.

i'm not defending the bond because, imo, it's too low, i'm just explaining what the thought process likely was.

9. I'm going to stray from the sexual contact. How the fuck
is "child abuse" a fucking misdemeanor?

I stray from the sexual contact because I know full well the system largely doesn't work for adult women in situations of any kind of sexual crimes like this. Just going for the low hanging, obvious fruit here.

10. as lame as it sounds, that's just how colorado law is
unless the child suffers serious bodily injury or death, it's a misdemeanor. i find it sickening, but that's how the laws are written.

16. i know
there might be some provision for bumping it up to a felony if there have been multiple charges or a long-term pattern of abuse, but i'm not positive on that one.

either way, it sickens me that it's not taken more seriously here.

20. Pattern of abuse
does kick it up to a felony...albeit at Class IV or something like that. Depends on the circumstance, I think.

14. Good thing I don't live in Colorado.
Someone did something the law called illegal sexual contact on my SO and "child abuse" on my kid...

I've got the police report, so I know where you live, bitch.

15. If anybody had illegal sexual contact with your SO, you'd have to bail her out
and arrange for justifiable homicide defense. Just sayin'.

22. Don't worry - the fundies are trying to create a ballot measure for this fall...
...that would identify a fertilized egg as a person, granting said "person" all the rights and privileges of other persons.

That one kind of makes my head hurt if I think about it for too long. Then again, I don't want to start anything. I'm just sayin.'
